  • Poodle color

I saw the coolest color of poodle at the dgo show last weekend. I had never seen a poodle that color so I had to ask what is was called. The handler said it was silver-beige. Anyone else seen that color? How common or uncommon is it? I took a pic and if I can figure out how to post it, I will.

I went on line and looked up poodle colors. The dog I saw looked ALOT more like the Cafe Au Lait than the silver beige they show. The handler said the dog was a solid reddish brown at birth. How would it be decided if a poodle is Silver-beige or Cafe Au Lait?

Just as the black gene is turned blue or silver, the brown gene is turned cafe au lait, and silver beige. A matter of degree.

It is a matter of degree; the medium light brown is cafe au lait; the lighter is silver beige; the lightest platinum silver beige. But they are all browns.

I have a silver-beige toy poodle. Here's a link to my dogs where you'll find Gracie...She was chocolate brown when we got her (bought as a silver beige), and changed to the silver-beige color.

and here's a couple more of her

Oooo, was it a Mini? Was it Ch. Alegria Shamus "Shane." I think he is just the prettiest! I've seen him a few times. If you go to the Alegria poodles website, you can see Shane and one of his litter mates as puppies. The were pretty light brown and had silver faces, very unique and beautiful. It's not a very common color, but I'm a fan.

One of the top mini's in the country is a true silver-beige "Shane" Ch. Alegria's Shamus. If you look at her website she has lots of pics of how this colour looks from baby puppy to cleared out adult. He is on the cover of Poodle Variety owner handler issue, which can be seen on the P.V. website. Beautiful dog,and lovely cover pic. My brown mini Mary J. could almost be mistaken for a silver-beige,but she is actually just a dilute brown, there are 4 different colour genes attached to brown apparently, and the lightest of true brown is what my girl is. I will try to attach a pic that shows her colour,it is very unusual, but I love it!

The ex's silver beige is just a little darker than Felicia's and she was the color of dark chocolate when we got her.

Your Gracie's color is outstanding, just so beautiful. her eye and nose pigment is exceptional. So very hard to get that dark eye and pigment, in any shade of brown.
