  • we are under a winter storm warning in S GA!

We are expecting SNOW! 3 Inches in fact overnight into tomorrow. Now for those of you snowed in in the middle eastern seaboard this does not compare at all, but remember please that our city does not have any snow removal euipment at all and no salt, and lets not forget too that I may be the only person here that has ever driven in snow (ok maybe not, but overall we are few and far between). the worst part is that it says snow and rain mixed and temps below freezing.....

I am SCARED! LOL I hate to say this but I would rather have rain than snow....and those who know me kknow how bad that statement is!

Everything's relative and 3" of snow, sleet and ice can be every bit as dangerous (if not more so) than the 60+ inches of the white stuff I am currently looking at.

I hope folks have the good sense to stay home....the problem is 3" just doesn't look that scary, so you get knotheads thinking they can just jump in their vehicle and hit the road.
Typically....they hit something, and it's more than the road.

Look at the bright side Parti. With any luck, it'll cover that parking lot from he11 of yours for a day or so.
You can actually look out the window and not be constantly reminded of that pain in the assfault.
(I guess that would mean you jumped in your vehicle and drove in the stuff....so maybe that's not such a practical thought either!)

    Good luck, be safe.
Often it's not what you say, but how you say it.

      Too funny!

I just saw that on the Today show. We had maybe 6 inches here in Raleigh, and i could't go anywhere most of the week. (mobile). I was so scared of just a little bit of ice with that trailer behind me, so I thought i just better stay my butt at home. Don't go out! All kinds of people go driving like its nothing, especially when you live somewhere that doesn't get it often. We had all kinds of wrecks here monday b/c of the black ice from the rain storm that came thru. People are so ignorant, just speeding along. Stay safe and wow, you might have enough to even go sledding! I used a cookie sheet for our last storm and it FLEW down our hilly street of icy snow!

Deb, I feel your pain. I feel like I'm the only person in southern Illinois who knows how to drive in snow. We had 5 inches Monday night. Every single one of my Tuesday grooms cancelled! I felt like screaming "FIVE INCHES? Are you serious? You're afraid to go out in FIVE INCHES OF SNOW?!?!" And, of course, the stores had a run on bread, milk, candles, and batteries all day Monday. Like they think we're going to be snowed in for a month. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

          lol....

          Hang in there Particentral......

3 inches is tolerable.....but I know living in an area where there is no equipment makes it so much worse......I live in a 1 plow town in Va......and have been rolling my schedule for a week and a half now....have 3 and 1/2 feet on the ground.....I'm from the North and feel the same way....no one knows how to drive in this stuff....well, I found that is really not quite true, have 4 wheel drive and a big truck, it's time to go!...but they don't know how to clean up driveways etc....soooo...I finally gave in and stopped worrying about getting to my clients....most of them don't want to spend money on grooming so their dog can jump in a snow pile! Is it hurting my business? Nope, I'm going to be really busy the next two weeks!!!

Enjoy the snow....it really is beautiful and fun.....let the dogs out to play and get out there with them!

I feel your pain, ice then snow on top of it, and the idiots with 4- wheel drive forget you have to be able to stop! Sorry to those of you who remember this detail. But when you neversee snow it is just as bad as 4feet to get 5 inches.

              Nervous here, too!

I am on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and they are also calling for snow tonight into tomorrow morning. And it's actually supposed to stay around after it falls, not just melt into the ground. I've been here for 15 years, and have only seen it fall once...about 15 years ago! Back then it didn't accumulate...just flurries falling and melting. I have tomorrow off, so I don't have to go anywhere, thankfully! Like everyone is saying, dumb folks think they can drive in that ****, even when they NEVER have! I know better! I'm a little bit nervous about the school bus drivers. If they don't cancel school? I'm thinking ahead of myself. I'm thinking if it does snow and it actually sticks...they'll cancel school...right?

                FOUR inches forecast for Friday

The National Weather Service calls for up to four inches of snow starting this evening. I've had it with this weather, I'm packing up and moving to Florida....errr....wait, I already LIVE in Florida.

Right now it's a tropical 33 degrees. The high today may get to 40 before it drops to near 20 at midnight.

So far I only have one appointment scheduled for Friday.

Yes, I love this lovely winter weather...NOT! Last month's electric bill topped $500. It's normally less than $200. If there is anyone in Tennessee that sees Al Gore talking about all this "global warming", kick him in the @$$ for me, willya?

There is up to 3 inches forecast for SC midlands area as well tomorrow night. I have full books Friday and Saturday but I guess it might change if weather gets nasty.

Hi Elsie! We're practically neighbors! I'm just up the road from you off I-10, in the "icebox of Florida".

Hubby does the driving, so I don't worry about the driving in the snow part. Four years in New England and another four in Germany driving through snow gave him a lot of experience. He's also an amateur radio operator and part of the volunteer emergency response team for our area.

From the stuff he gets in e-mails, the decisions about closing schools should be made by this afternoon. He's on a bunch of e-mail lists for local and regional emergency management, nothing about closing schools as of 11:00 a.m., but they will have a better idea this afternoon and should make an announcement by dinnertime.

Those of you that don’t know how to drive in the snow and you must go out. Drive slow and put your hazard lights on. Other people will see you are scared and they will stay away. Keep a shovel, a big bag of cat litter, blanket and a full tank of gas in your car or truck. Flash light and snacks are good to have as well.

I have been stuck a few times this winter and these things are real helpful.
Be smart and safe and don’t worry about the buttheads that want to drive like nuts, they will go around you.

Most excellent advice, and first and foremost....a fully charged cell phone.
This might all seem silly if you are only "going around the corner"...but creek beds, small piles of snow/ice accumulation on a sharp corner, ramps, bridges and overpasses can all conspire to send you into a place you never thought you'd be...or that anyone else can easily find or see you.

I like Bugles, Combos, and honey roasted cashews. In AND out of my vehicle. In a snowstorm, or on a 90 degree day in July.

Ugh, we're getting 1-3 in metro ATL, too. Last time we had ice and not snow, my assistant's hubby flipped her car!
Bulldogs are adorable, with faces like toads that have been sat on.

And I have to say that in this area, we dont rush out to buy food and milk, gas and batteries. We RUSH to get our DOGS GROOMED! I swear I had 24 today and 18 tomorrow IN THE FREAKIN MESS! Schools are shut down tomorrow already and the teachers are taking advantage of it to get their dogs groomed.

Sigh....and I am stuck sleeping at work (I have a sleeper sofa) because my van is overheating. Its likely just the thermostat but we just discovered it was doing it and my hubby is bowling tonight, so I am stuck at the shop with HS internet and a few competition dogs that need bathing.....or maybe not.

They are saying we might get some snow, or maybe not, it's about the 5th time we have had snow heading our way, but so far, all we have had is ice. Stay warm and hope for the best!
