Just sad

On December 21, as many of you might remember, I was supposed to groom all day but ended up in the ER and my employee ended up finishing my day. I just got a call from one of the clients that I was supposed to see that day. I've been doing her two older Shih Tzu's for about a year now. Well, Thai, her female has crossed the bridge. I never thought it would be Thai to go first as Rocky seemed to be aging less gracefully. I know we never really know when the "last groom" will be the last groom, but I am sad that I missed Thai's last appointment. Though I know my groomer took excellent care of both of them. She made an appointment for Rocky and said hopefully nothing would happen to him between now and then and she'd call me if it did. I told her, no offense, but I DON'T want to hear from her between now and then. I adore Rocky. He's blind and has about 3 hairs on his torso, but he is so sweet. Thai never, ever sat still. She would rock back and forth, I think because she was a bit overweight and possibly at the beginnings of senility, but she was just as sweet. She'd bark at me if I wasn't paying attention to her. I love doing the senior pets, I have a real soft spot in my heart for them, but I hate losing them.

I'm so sorry that you lost one of your grooming 'kids'...I've gotten to the point in my career when many of the dogs I started grooming as puppies and young dogs are crossing over. It's such a hard part of what we do, isn't it? And yet I wouldn't give up knowing any of them. It's a beautiful sorrow, because we did get to have them in our lives and enjoy them while making a difference for them. That's how I look at it, anyway. Thai is still around, and I bet she visits you, because you cared.
