I looking into getting a door alarm, so I can know when people come into the shop. I don't have a very big place, but with the dryers running it's hard to hear anyone out front. I had gotten one from home depot and it didn't last long at all. I have one know thats on the door but you can only hear it if nothing else is running. I was looking for something that has a wireless base so I can keep it in the back. I bought one at radio shack today and took it home and played with it, but it's not all loud. The sales lady told me it was really loud too. For what I spent , I was expecting more. Can anyone suggest a brand that is better?? Thanks, Pam

I have the same problem when I'm in my bathing room. I have chimes on the door, but can't hear them when I'm bathing and can't SEE out there. If Cameo is there, she usually lets me know when someone comes in, but there are days when she's not, that's when I need a buzzer or something.
Let me know what you find

We had the same problem at the kennel I used to work at. People would drive up and stand in the office for 15 minutes sometimes without people noticing. Then, when you find the client, they are pretty steamed!
We got a driveway alarm, but couldn't hear it. So, we wired the alarm to a fire alarm bell! (Not the ear piercing digital kind, but an actual bell loud enough to sound over everything that goes on in a kennel.) The beep of the driveway alarm sounded in the office, and the alarm bell sounded in the back of the kennel. No more clients standing in the office! We knew when they drove up! They were all so impressed that there was ALWAYS someone standing in the office when they walked in. Course, by the time they passed the alarm trigger, parked, and came into the office, they had no clue a fire alarm had gone off.We occasionally had a client standing in the office when another client drove up, and after their initial surprise, we would explain, and they laughed and mentioned how they always wondered how we knew someone was there.
On a side note, we had one of our personal dogs that would open the gate and wander down the driveway. He never did figure out how we always knew when he was out.

we used a wired set up in this salon. A spinning yellow light (like you see on top of cars being towed) in the tub room and a wired door bell in the grooming room. We have the hearing impaired phones that are really loud plus they have flashing red lights on both the phones & the base units.
I AM hearing impaired but I dont use my hearing aids at work.. these things work: dryers, clipper vacs, vacuum cleaner & phone ringing... I hear i the door chime.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I think I might try to have someone wire a light to the alarm base and see if that works! I can't seem to find one that has a loud chime and a strobe light. I'm not giving up yet!
When my doggie was alive and when she went to work with me , I never had to worry she heard everything even though she was old! It might time for another doggie, I'll have to try that excuse on my hubby! Thanks! Pam

We bought one from HomeDepot for $30.00 dollars that is wireless it works great we can hear it over the dryer. Then we also got a cheap $50.00 secutiry camera from RadioShack and hooked it up to a monitor in the back so i can see the whole front waiting area of our place from the back with the camera. As for the strobe thing talk to a alarm guy they install them we were going to have our alarm guy install one but never got to it, i forgot what they call them.
