Today I was trying to hurry to get my small dogs done. I had the local sherriffs dept. dogs coming in after lunch. Thats another story. Any way I was using a 4f on this yokie(moms request), I had just finished the Pads with a 40 I laid that clipper down And thought I had picked up the clipper with the 4 I didn't I picked the clipper with the 40 and made a swipe right on the top of the back with a 40 pretty good bald spot right on top. I tried blending using a 10 but it looked horrible. I explained to mom what I had done. She just laughed and said it would grow back fine. She just said she could wear a bandanna for a while. Did I deal with this the right way? Talk about feeling stupid. I guess I have a lot to learn. Not to have 2 prs of clippers on the table at the same time.

LOL, yes. Once did a #30 on top of a cockers head instead of a #10. Talk about bald head! Also had a snap on comb pop off going down a poodle leg. Lets just say, she was prepped for an IV had she needed one! The poodle owner was fine with it. I explained what happened and she said as long as the dog was fine, she was fine and the fir would grow back. I don't remember the cocker owners response so she must have been fine too. What a caterpillar considers the end of his world, we call a butterfly.

I only use one clipper and one trimmer. I always remove the blade from the clipper when I set it down; that way, I have to think about what blade I am putting on the clipper before I use it. I've just trained myself that way to avoid a mistake like the one you made. We all make mistakes and like the owner said the fur will grow back.

I put a racing stripe down the center of a few dogs when I was in school. Used my 10 blade to clip the privy areas, put the clippers down, picked the clippers up to start the haircut, OH ****! After about the third time I trained myself to remove the blade every time I used the clippers untill I had been grooming for about a year.
I think probably every groomer on the planet has done it at least once, whether they admit it or non. LOL

Oh yes, and on my pickiest SCWT client. That was fun-it was back in the day with a 40 under a #1, the spring on the clip on died, and swipe about 12 inches center back with a 40. The dog also had clipper burn issues and I couldn’t clip the groin shorter than a 5f, that was fun. She was not as understanding as your client, but did come back. Of course, for the next 4 years I got to hear about it every time she came in.

Oh yeah been there, I had my #40 on my one set of clippers to shave the feet and face on a poodle. On my other clipper I had a 3/4 blade and after shaving the feet I set down my clippers to brush the dog a little then picked up the other clipper ( thought it was the longer) and zip took a big chunk out of the side of hair. I couldn't believe I had done that. Thing is I saw that it wasn't the right blade but couldn't seem to stop my motion. The owners were so nice. I could have cried"I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt,
and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." - John Steinbeck

I did something very similar in school! I too was working on a Yorkie w/ a #4F. I tipped his ears w/ a #15; after I finished his face, one of my instructors said I could get some more hair off his thigh. Didn't check the blade, started clippering, and said, "Wow, there IS a lot more coming off!"
Then I looked at the blade and an "Oh $#*7" was all I could manage. At least I learned how to blend in a boo-boo ~^-^~
