  • I went and did it. I got another dog.

On Thursday the local Animal Control called and said they had a Scottish Terrier surrendered by the owner. The owner is actually an officer with the city (I'm not quite sure, but I think he is a police officer). His wife recently had a baby and between the baby and a toddler she wasn't able to handle the dog. The little dog is barely a year old.

I thought about it, but then thought I would get busted for already having 4 dogs. So the next day one of the Animal Control officers came by my work (they are generally there once or twice a week). We started talking about the little dog and she asked if I was interested. I kind of hinted that I might already be at the town's limit. She told me that she didn't care because she knew that I took care of my dogs.

So they brought her by my work and all the other dogs get along, so I took her home. After trying out a couple names I have settled on Rosie. She is all Scotty and she is so very sweet. I am babysitting a neighbor's dog and Rosie has taken a dislike to her. I can hear her jaws snap from across the room.

I am so excited. So that means I have 3 Cairns, 1 Scotty and 1 Pippin (poodle).

That makes TWO of us! I went to the shelter today and now I have a new 12 year old dachshund. She is itty bitty, about 7 pounds MAYBE, emaciated, blind from cataracts, smells to high heaven, and has god awful teeth. It was love at first sight. I couldn't leave her there, and tomorrow was her 'check out' date, if you know what I mean. So, hopefully Thursday they will call me to say I can come get her. Only thing that ticks me off is that the shelter vet has to evaluate her to see if they want to spay her. Are you kidding me? Spay a 12 year old dog? I think her puppy making days are long gone. Hopefully the vet will opt not to, and just let her come to her new home. I need names though... it has to start with an E, all my dogs have E names. I have Eve, Ember, Eli and Eloise already, so what sounds good for this girl?
I attached a pic of her, it was her official shelter pic when she was taken in. It is not flattering, it doesnt show how beautiful and stoic she is.

I would spay her and have a dental done; old dogs are prone to pyometra and uterine cancer.
