  • Trimming pads?

Hello everyone, I'm just curious to know what everyone uses to trim pads and the sanitary area? Do you use a separate trimmer or do you use the same clippers that you use to do the overall haircut? I use the Arco 5 in 1 trimmer for the pads and sanitary but I swear I keep replacing the blade after 1 month! I was just curious what everyone else does! Thanks!

I usually like to use my #30 blade with my clipper vacuum system. I can get a super close trim that looks nice without really even touching against the skin with the suction. For teeny tiny feet, I will grab for my Bravura trimmer and use it on #30 setting. My blades stay in good shape because I don't shave dirty coat, only after freshly washed and dried. I also wash my blades once a week in hot soapy water and then rinse well, dry thoroughly and oil them regularly.

I use my Bravura trimmer for pads and sani. I use the #30 setting for feet but I don't dig into the feet unless they have matts in there and I use the #10 setting for sani.
I'm really just a little dog in a big dog's body (I really should cut down on those milk bones).

I use my Bravura on feet pads on 40 setting but I dont dig in unless matted. I use a 10 with clipper vac for sani area. I also use the Bravura if I have to do eye area, just eaiser for me, and I always use it for clean feet. My blades last though because I only use them on clean dogs.

I LOVE my Bravura for the sanitary and pads. I use it on the #30 blade setting. If I have to I will use my regular clippers, but I generally try to avoid it. I keep the blade pretty clean and they do last longer than a couple months but not as long as me normal blades.

I use a 30 on pads and a 9 or 10 on sani. I use the 5 in 1 laube speed feed blade for both & never use it on dirty dogs. My employee has the whal acro and we buy blades at the same time, I don't know if it's the way we use them but mine always lasts longer than hers.

I use my arco #30 for pads, and #10 for sani, but some dogs are extra sensitive, so sometimes use a #10, or #9 arco blade on them, really all depends on dogs skin type. Some I only use a #7blade, or sometimes just sissors and thinning sissors, really depends on skin and hair type. Some are allergy or otherwise prone, so always check pads and belly to see what type blade they can take, and sometimes if any...others can take a #40 or beyond,,,just know your dog and what there particular skin can handle. There is no "one blade". They all are different with all kinds of issues.

If it's a small dog I use my Peanut for pads. A larger dog I use my regular clippers and a 30 blade. I probably don't do what most people do for a sani, and what I do might be a bit dangerous for a novice, so I won't post it here, lest someone with little experience decides to give it a try.

But I do have a different set of butt and foot blades. The thought of using a butt blade on a dog's face kinda makes me gag. Even if the blade has been cleaned between uses.

If i don't just scissor the pads (OMG I know, but on some breeds I prefer it) I use a 40, and a 10 on the sani area if it is a reg. pet groom
