  • One of my favorite things...

    in grooming.
Is there a sweeter and more tender moment than when a dog puts his nose softly in your ear and breathes in your scent and then slowly and very tenderly (and purposefully) licks your cheek?
I had a dog do this today while I was putting some balm on his front foot and it gives me shivers and a very deep sense of gratitude every time.
    Gosh I love my job.

I love dogs, and I get a lot of the ones other groomers turn away, the filthy ones, the matted ones, the difficult ones, but I must say, there is no better feeling in the world than when you take one of these dogs and clean them up and make them smell good, then they give you little licks and it is almost like they are saying thank you...I love my new job!
Although I have only been grooming a few months and didn't go to a grooming school, I still do my best on each and every dog and try to make them look the best I can, and I try to make their parents treat them to a grooming more often, or even a brushing at home or the occasional bath...hopefully some of them will listen to me and keep them a little more comfortable!

I love that. My little Cockapoo girl does that when she sits in my lap to snuggle. It always melts my heart.

I love moments like that. I do an older Aus Shepard named Sadie. She is super sweet. Anytime my face gets anywhere near her she sniffs me softly, and then gives me tender kisses. I love her to death. It also helps that her owner is HOT HOT HOT. I drool every time he brings her in.

I love those little "thank you" acts we get from our furry friends. Makes it all worth it in the end.

Nice thread, thanks for starting it Windy! I love it when I get a little "thank you" from a dog, especially on a day when I am feeling stressed and not really loving my job. It kinda helps put things back into perspective and makes me realize how lucky I am to have a job that rarely feels like work!

                    I have a life

My business, Ham Radio with club events, Choir at church with church events, Dog Shows and dog show club plus some classes, Community events, and regular hiking and a long term boyfriend. Still I do everything I can to try to keep up with the threads here and often that means late at night.

It's sharing and understanding but as dogspaw said this board is educational for groomers. I still am learning here even though I am a ICMG and have full time groomed for something like 17 years. I've been involved with dogs for 45 years. I can think of it as continuing education.

Please don't put yourself down for spending time on the board. I've been a member here for a long time and as I said, I'm still learning.

Thank you moments are the best. Sometimes I get them when I need them the most. They really do know.

I got one from Xavier this morning. He was incredibly happy that I had the day off, so he curled up in my lap. Yep, all 57 pounds of him!

                        I'm known to say

"I love my job. How many people get kisses all day at work?" Sometimes there is a giggle thinking of "sorted" jobs that aren't legal, but usually the people enjoy my fact. Grooming housecall I have quite a few doggie clients that were not treated right in the past. Those pooches look at me with appreciation and give specially sweet kisses.

That is so sweet and yes that is enough to make your heart just melt and remember why we love this job sooo much.
One of my own dogs ( amost beautiful chocolate dilute sharpei) was tender that way. Most folks thought he was a brutte but he was just a mashmallow. He guarded his home and me his entire life but just let me sit down and he'd crawl up beside me and sniff then kiss me with the most tender kisses I've ever had. His tongue was like silk and so was his muzzle. I couldn't help but think of him when you posted this. I lost him last summer at 11 years old and I think one of the things that I miss most are those tender kisses and that soft muzzle.

Don't forget the new dog that walks back to you for pet when leaving, then finding out the dog doesn't ever do that.
