  • Clients teach us the most amazing things...

In the last 2 weeks, I have learned some really interesting facts about dogs...

    1. Eyelashes, once cut on a shih-tzu, will NEVER grow back.

    2. In order for a schnauzer to look right, they must have "socks".

    3. Poms are naturally tender-headed. It's a breed thing.

    4. A pom owner wanted me to clip all of the guard hair and leave the soft undercoat because "it's a fact that poms are naturally colder than most breeds."

We need to have a top 10 list!!!

A dog that has had vaccine reactions can NEVER EVER EVER be around any other dogs for the rest of it's life!!!

A schnauzer is supposed to have a long flowing SKIRT (like a scotty) but not be groomed like a scottie

I have a regular client that has 2 Maltese's her daughter told her that you cannot cut the hair on the tail because it will never grow back. although I had trimmed the hair monthly for an entire year before this.Mom said to me well my daughter breeds them she knows... lol.. Ok obviously no one told her dogs tail hair this due to the fact I had trimmed a full inch off every month it should have been bald after a couple months of this.. not to mention all those poor little matted pelts that leave the salon looking like rats.. Forever? ya ok .. lol

#1) Always leave the eyelashes or the dog could go blind for "gosh sakes".
#2) Schnauzers are the smartest breed. Almost human.
#3) Shih Tzus are the smartest breed. Almost human.
#4) Labs are the smartest breed. Almost human.
#5) Yorkies are the smartest breed. Almost human and the cutest!
#6) Maltese are the smartest breed. Almost human and have the best hair.
#7) German Shepards are wise beyond their years and will bite if they don't like what your doing.
#8) Lhasas well what CAN you say. His/her way or the highway. Do what you can and for god sakes "leave the eye lashes or it'll go blind.
#9) Mutts are awesome, they don't have the "hang-ups" of pure bred dogs!
        #10) POODLES RULE!
Just a few notes from my grooming table. Lol, he he he.

I had a client tell me he read that toy poodles and miniture poodles are a separate breed from standards. I was like I have never heard that before but now I'm not sure if he was right or not! Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure what the problem is with this one. Anyone care to explain?

One of my favorites: Customer comes in to pick up her cocker and exclaims "Oh my god, you cut off his whiskers! Now he's going to bump into walls!!!"

Oh Spikey, No problem, no problem with ANY OF THEM, they are all true statements in one form or another from owners, that was what I was trying to say, they All are so endearing to us all in one way or another, even if, owners say dumb things about eyelashes or the like.
Good golly, I own three of the breeds I used in my number thing, just trying to be funny and and tell what I hear all week long.
Never ever meant to offend anyone, or anyones breed of choice. I'm so happy and fortunate to be around all breeds and not just mine, goosh never meant anything by what I typed......just a joke?

And besides joking but everyone thinks "there breed" of dog is the Smartest. That was all I was saying. Goosh sorry if I offended anyone.

According to AKC, a poodle is a poodle is a poodle and if you bred a Standard Poodle to a Toy Poodle, you would still have a purebred Poodle, and it's size would be determined by its height when it was grown. They have the exact same standard no matter the size.

However, due to the size differences, you most often see standards bred to standards, minis bred to minis and toys bred to toys.

In AKC competition, Poodles are awarded "Best of Variety" not "Best of Breed" for the simple reason that the different sizes do not compete against each other. Since they are considered the same breed, and don't compete against each other, one cannot declare a Best of Breed. Cockers, Beagles, Dachshunds, Bull Terriers, Manchester Terriers, Chihuahuas, English Toy Spaniels, and Collies are other breeds divided by varieties for competition rather than breeds. Varieties are divided by size, color, or coat type. The only time a Best of Breed is determined for the breeds divided into Varieties is at a Specialty show that is held seperate from a normal all-breed AKC show.

Never clip the hair on a westie's back-it will grow back into the skin

You can tell if a dog is purebred if the roof of his mouth is all black

Don't cut the hair over his eyes-he'll go blind

                        Cock-a-poos are purebred, registered dogs
Old groomers never die, they just go at a slower clip.

                        Groom on!!!

Just being funny also, and added the big smile.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.

If a dog has black on his tongue he is part chow.
