  • New client sent a message LOL

I had a new client call last week that I spent a good deal of time with on the phone. She has a Sheltie that is a bit nervous and just wanted to, I think, get to know me a bit to feel comfortable. I scheduled her with my other groomer and told her that she was fabulous, that she would do a wonderful job and would be very good with her dog. She seems like an incredibly nice lady! Anyway, my groomer did the dog on Tuesday and when she came back she told me the owner wanted her to relay a message for her. She said the owner "wanted me to tell you that I am as fabulous as you said I was" LOL It almost seemed like she was a bit embarassed relaying the message LOL. She also said while she was there many of the neighbors called to see what all the hub-bub was about and asked for biz cards for their own pet. I have been SO fortunate to have found such a great employee. She's the best! Just like the brag about her!

Yes you are SO lucky. I have had folks ask me about hiring a groomer to just work on weekends but I am so fearful of hiring someone to represent me after seeing and hearing all the crazy stories about the groomers around here. How did you go about discovering this great groomer. Did you get her fresh out of school and finish the training yourself? Seems that good responsible groomers are hard to find. one more question: When you hired her did you have to have additional insurance to include her (liability, etc.)? Do your regular clients care which one of you does the groom? Thanks.

You are so lucky. I'm sure there are lots of groomers out there who like to clone her. lol You deserve it with all the aggravation you get from your van.

She's been grooming about the same length of time I have, plus she's a professional show handler so she really knows her breed standards. She went to Paragon and even had her own mobile business way back when but just decided she'd rather groom and not deal with everything else that comes with owning a business, which is great for me. I had posted an ad on another grooming message board that I was looking and it took 4 months before I found her. She was actually referred to me by someone here so that helped me trememndously. I had prayed to find someone just like me, LOL, you know what I mean, (I hope) and I think I got the absolute closest thing. The clients love her. I do try to give her all the new people as there have been a few of my current clients that used her when I was sick, and though they found nothing wrong with her grooming, just prefer to stick with me. I think just because they've developed a relationship with me which is fine. Plus she grooms during the day and I do nights so most of the time our clients don't overlap. She was a Godsend when I had the flu and had that horrible abdominal pain while grooming that sent me to the ER.
I knew I would be very picky with whoever applied for a job. I was more concerned with handling skills, treatment of the pets and safety, but she's the whole package. I really lucked out! I wouldn't have hired anyone if I hadn't found someone that met my standards though.
