  • For those with boarding and/or daycare

I'm wondering how you're business is...I learned today that TWO daycare with boarding facitilies have gone out of business within 2 weeks of each other.
One also offered grooming and would have been my "competition" at my new location and I only found this out when they had a grooming client call me looking to make an appointment.
Now granted both these businesses had their own issues on how they ran things but I'm shocked that both these businesses are gone.

We just opened a boutique and daycare next door to the shop I work at, and the boutique has been slow and there haven't been any daycare customers. Might be due to the fact that my boss had the idea to do "private" daycare (no, the dogs don't get to play) and this completely defeats the purpose of daycare (but I digress).

are you moving the location of your business (but keeping name, etc) or are you starting a new business due to the divorce? The bf and I are talking about moving and I hate moving soooo bad... can't imagine moving businesses.

I'm relocating the business which will be 9 miles away and easy access off the freeway...There are 14 shops where I live now; where I'm moving to there aren't any! The nearest one is about 5 miles away.
I've never relocated a business this far and I'm not expecting it to be easy

the boarding facility I work at has been ALL over the place this year. August was our biggest profit month EVER, but as a whole the year has been terrible. At one point last winter we had 13 dogs being boarded in room for 300... I do think things are starting to turn around, but when the economy is bad, people don't go on vacation, and don't board their dogs. I also believe that free range boarding is becoming much more popular, so that may be part of it too. Overall you can make a ton of money, but you just have to be prepared for the super highs and lows.
What places went out of business?

LOL! I call that "Daytime Boarding". I read your earlier post, and cracked up at that too.

Maybe your boss should try a different marketing approach....something like "A day at the Groomer's without getting groomed"?

"Pay for your pet to spend the day in isolation with us." ?

Moonie...I think it sounds like you are gonna have it made in the shade, lady!
