  • What are they thinking?

I saw this ad today that made me curious:
Pet Groomer Wanted - (city in California)
Full time job pet groomer wanted experience a must please, able to handle customer relations, setting appointments and Grooming experience at least a Year, responsible person to manage day to day store traffic. Salon open 5 days a week 40 hours only, pay by hour (fixed). 1/3/10
So, I called to see what the hourly rate is. OMG!!! the answer is $8.00. Are you out of your mind? You can't get someone to manage a 7-11 for that kind of scratch! AND, don't give me this crapola about the economy. I can only assume that this is a brand new business owned by someone who has never had a dog or cat groomed and just thought they would open a shop...
When your done rolling on the floor laughing, lets discuss this phenomenon...

The owner is not a groomer and he did see it as easy money without much work.

See the private message I sent to you.

Sorry still rolling on the floor...BRB

Way to do your research, Mr. $8/hour. Try searching the BSDM boards for a submissive looking to be abused.

I don't know how anybody can expect to live off that; even if there is other money coming into the household. WA state has one of the highest, if not the highest, minimum wage along with a high cost of living. I don't know what CA's cost of living is, but I just don't see how a person can support themselves on $8.00.
It might be ''easy'' money but it's not "easy" work.

Even $18 an hour sounds low to basically run the business.

                  Ali Kat,

Thanks sooooooooo very much for the big laugh! Did you laugh at the person on the phone when they told you the wage?

Around here, the minimum wage is around $10/hour.

                    Haha

Besides amazement at the wage, I would like to say something to Canopener Sally - I believe it's "BDSM" (for bondage/discipline/sadism/masochism) which reminded me of a really funny incident:

In the late 70's a girlfriend and I picked up a local paper on the west coast thinking we might look at the personal ads. We were young and sheltered and didn't realize that the paper was an "alternative" paper. When we didn't know what all the abbreviations meant, we wondered if we should call anyway and kind of try to figure out what they were talking about. Well, a week or so later I came across something somewhere that spelled out a couple of the abbreviations, lol. I called my friend and explained to her what we almost got into without knowing it. Haha - I could imagine us trying to bluff - "Yeah, sure, BDSM - is that a local cafe or what?" lolololol

Isn't the average house price in CA a half million smackeroos?
