Blue Moon origins are ancient, the second blue moon is when a "veil" lifts and mortals can commune with the gods, goddess's, it is a very spirutual time for prayers and meditation. It is also said to be when the grandmother goddes rises to the divine, or the greatest knowlege to be attained. Happy New Year and growing spiritualy.

You guys might be different there but a blue moon here is when there are 2 full moons in the same month and the 2nd is called the blue moon and causes a king tide. There is one this month on the 30th and another one in March and its very rare to have 2 so close together. There will be no full moon in Feb this year.

            Really beautiful...

We were lucky enough to have a brilliant, cold night to see the blue moon. Here's a pic of our kennel/grooming building very early this morning - with the blue moon illuminating the yard.

Great photo, Petekids! My friend told me about this yesterday, but I've never heard of it! It's funny though, because I noticed the night before last, that I was sitting outside very late, like 10pm and it looked SO light outside. I remembered thinking, hmmm, it usually is pitch black out at night with no clouds and I thought it was eerie. Then last night, although the moon seemed larger than usual, I didn't take notice of the lighting, but I wasn't outside much.

I heard about the blue moon on the radio as I was driving to Montreal yesterday. Nowadays a blue moon is what we call the 2nd full moon in a calendar month. It usually only happens every 3 years or so. Last night there was also a partial lunar eclipse, but you had to be waaay up north to see it. A blue moon with a partial lunar eclipse happens only once in 200 years. Before the Farmer's Almanac was published, a "blue moon" actually referred to the colour of the moon, often caused by smoke or dust in the atmosphere. Very cool learning about blue moons and king tides....!
