  • Need some advice

I work at a kennel and I am having problems with one of my co-workers. She puts the same dogs in the grooming appointment book more than once, she never list in the book whether it is a walk in or a kennel dog and she checks out my dogs without telling me –even my groom only dogs. Is it not a big part of grooming for you to get input from your customers? Bad or good.. and on top of all this she brings her dog (big dog)to work and if the kennel is full I have to deal with this dog wining and crying for her while I am trying to groom. I like to work in a calm environment and I can get my groom dogs to behave while I am grooming but her dog will only listen to her. Maybe because the dog can feel my resentment I don’t know. Anyhow my boss tells me I have to deal with this myself(she doesn’t like to confront people) I plan to take care of this in the morning and I could use some good advice.

the boss doesn't want to be the boss, so you have to do her job? that sucks! talk to the person and inform them politly but firmly that YOU will check out all grooming dogs, the dogs MUST be marked kennel or groom only, or that you wqill take over scheduling as well. as for her dog, only grooming dogs are allowed in the grooming room, new year, new rules. If she puts the dog in there, simply take the dog back to where she is and ask"did you forget only grooming dogs in grooming room?" check the books often and stay after them until they "get it" or get out of your job. I don't know how you can groom well and not get customer feed back.

Just tell her in a calm manner the things you are having trouble with and hope she willing to listen. I have a problem with the lady who takes care of our boarders. The only way to get to boarding is to go thru grooming. I have ask her several times, not to talk to my dogs, and that I am busy and cannot stop and visit with her. She's like 85 years old, can hardly walk and constently mumbles " it's ok" , even if there are no dogs around,,,lol. Monday, she was at it again, trying to sweep under my table while I was trying to scissor a face. I ask her to stop about 3 times, but she was no, I want to help you. She was also going to each cage and telling the dogs they were ok,,, we usually have the dogs out in about 4 hrs, so it's not like they been sitting there all day. I talked to the owner Monday evening and told her the boarding lady was driving me nuts, and it was a safety issue to have her in grooming. Store rule, nobody is allowed in grooming but the groomers, unless they are releasing a boarding dog. Tuesday morning the old lady shows up at 9:30 am, normally she dosen't get there untill 3:30 -4pm. I went up to the front and was rasing he**. The owner called me, said be nice, but tell her to stay out of grooming. So, ( I know this story is long,, sorry) I go back to grooming, I have 11 dogs booked for the day, no bather, I'm trying to get everyone checked in and in the tub. Here she comes, wanting to say "hello" to 2 of our regs who sometimes board, but were only in for a xmas bath. They start barking, which makes all the other dogs start barking etc,,,, I tell her nicely, I know you mean well and love the dogs but I can't have you in grooming,, she totally ingores, me and keeps heading over to the dogs, again I say it is distracting and you can;t be in grooming, she gets really mad, said she only wanted to say hello and if I can't deal with it, it's my prob,,, but she did leave!!! She was in and out all day, taking one towel at a time to the washing machine, letting out the dogs in boarding( we only had 2) every hr on the hr, but she never said a word to me again. Moral of this story is your co worker is prob gonna get mad and not work with ya,,,lol, hope you had better luck that I did!

Poochie, odette advised just like I would have. I can't imagine, having been a manager...letting things get to this point and not re-establishing some order...but it sounds as if it is up to you.

RudyRoo....my blood pressure went up just reading your post, you poor thing.

I swear if it were I....I would fantasize about going to a magic shop and get some fake blood capsules.
I'd have a Bichon or Malti on the table when she takes her next passive/aggressive stroll through your grooming area for no reason other than to annoy your arse. (1 towel at a time????? grrrrrrr!)
I'd let out a huge yelp and real quick...squirt the blood capsule all over the white dog's head and start crying "oh no...I knew with ALL the distractions...this was INEVITABLE! Her eye! Her eye! Can you help me find it...it's on the floor somewhere!!!!!!"
Often it's not what you say, but how you say it.

Well today went pretty good… My boss did take care of some of the problems. She went over the schedule and fixed all my bookings for the next two weeks. The co-worker showed up without her dog. I talked with her about the other problems and she said that she would try to remember now to check out my dogs. I told her to just stay out of the grooming room than she would not have a problem forgetting.

Rudy- maybe what we need to do is make a sign that says GROOMER WORKING STAY OUT OR YOU WILL LOSE A FINGER!!!
