I usually take the time between xmass and whatever Monday after New Years off, but this year I decided to work Monday threw Wed next week thinking I could do some deep cleaning and book work and maybe a couple grooms since I would be here. I am crazy booked and crazy the next week after the first too. Seems like many are waiting till after the holidays to get their dogs done. Maybe to save the $$ for presents? Anyone else seeing this? Its usually real quiet the first couple weeks in January, but not this year. Hope it is a sign that the economy is fixin to turn back around!

Advance bookings are dead after Christmas. My girlfriend and I are going to Biloxi New Years Eve to spend some of my tip money and see a show.
Hubby stays at home. He doesn't like parties, either.

Last year and again this year, Jan. is going to be just as busy as any other month. Jan. 2010 is already full for me and Feb. is 1/3 full. I was hoping for some free time in Jan. and Feb., but not going to happen. 95% of my clients pre-book so it keeps me pretty steady. I did have a slow day next Tuesday, but a client (that doesn't prebook) called and scheduled her two dogs, so now that is a full day also. Last year I took the week between Christmas and New Year's off. I didn't do that this year and wish I had. I will be sure to take it off every year after this. I am worn out.Lisa VanVleet, RVT

I did pretty well last Jan and Feb, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I am full next Tues and Wed, and have dogs booked for the next few Saturdays.
One thing I did that helped....I sent out over 200 Christmas cards to clients, and I sent some to clients I hadn't seen in a while. People started to get those and call me to set up grooming. I do reminder cards, but I think a lot of these people got the cards and decided their pet didn't need grooming yet, but the Christmas card kind of acted as a second reminder.

The week after Thanksgiving I was slammed, but so far it is looking pretty dead this week. I think I have a whopping 3 dogs on the book today, and all of them are kennel dogs that are going home. Many times I am surprised though and start off a day dead slow and pick up to a busy day.
I do kinda hope it stays slow today so I can get some deep cleaning done as well as wash my own stinky, neglected dogs.SheilaB from SC

Yes, I am booked, too.. NO dry spell so far this upcoming year. But then my T-Day and Christmas were steady, too and not crazy busy with last minutes, everything fell into place pretty nicely...could be a sign of some well taken care of and nurtured clients, Dogspaw~Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. We were closed since 12/23 at 10 pm. Never got insane busy like in the past for the week before Christmas. We reopen tomorrow, and the bosslady has informed me were are booked solid for Tues and Wed. We are closed THURS as well as Fri, as this has always been such a slow week, so I guess we'll be working late until then. Good thing I had 5 days off and can use the $$. More New Years parties than Christmas, I guess??
