  • The homestretch

Well, we're officially into the holiday homestretch! I started a 10 day marathon which is something I haven't done in about 14 years and am really not looking forward to.
My holiday tips have been way down this year, the holiday business kind of roller coastered until now but I'm thankful that I have a roof over my head, clothers on my back, and a job.
Happy holiday grooming to all of you

I'm with you Moon can't wait until it's over. Gets harder and harder every year.

Had to go out yesterday, Sunday to do one dog. it was sick earlier and they are leaving for Fla so I said I'd come do the dog for them. Another client called, who had lost her old cocker earlier this year to tell me they have a new puppy, cocker.

The new puppy needed to have a little trim, owner likes to start early, YEA, so I stopped by to do the pads face nails. She had already bathed him. I wasn't going to charge her, since I didn't spend a great deal of time.

Well the rescheduled owner did not tip me, but the puppy owner insisted on handing me a check and it was for a $100. Now that's aprreciation.

DO NOT kill yourself!!!!!! I was doing 10-15 at 36 weeks pregnant and the doctor said 'out of work now, or bed rest. you choose'. You should enjoy these last weeks and treasure them forever; not go home, keel over, then get up and do it all over again. *SIGH* Do I need to come take care of you? hehe

Our schedule has been roller coaster too (we're very rural), the tips down, and the extra holiday presents down as well. But we're still busy. I'm thinking 'is it January yet?!' Then in Jan I'll get bored.

Same here, slammed till after Christmas. I have also noticed that the tips and gifts are much smaller or non existant compared to previous years. But at least they are booking their next appts for January and Febuary so I am happy about that. I guess with the economy like it is, people are cutting back on a lot of things. Quite a few of my clients are dealing with a spouse being laid off or hours cut back so there is not as much $$ as there was last year.

I hear ya Moonie! I'm gonna be one TARRED groomer when christmas is over, but the bank account will be doing the happy dance Clients are even adding extra $$ on to their regular payment and saying "merry christmas"

I went in yesterday (my day off) afternoon and did two dogs that come from 45 minutes away. This client works the same schedule as me and he can't find a closer groomer that he's happy with, so he makes the drive to me and I do them on Mondays for an additional charge. It's very worth it and he tips well too.

If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely have taken at least the week after Christmas off, but the thought of leaving my clients high and dry for two months of maternity leave compelled me to book up until the very last minute! Unfortunately, I can't blame anybody but myself since I'm the groomer and the boss! I have whittled it down to about five dogs a day and actually rejoice when there is a cancellation or a no show. Between work, and Doctor's appointments, now I just need to find time to go Christmas shopping!?
