BIG secure muzzles for those Big- headed Bracky..... French Bull dogs, Eng Bulls dogs and Pugs etc. No way can I trim nails without a good muzzle and the mickey ones are too small and velcro worthless for sticking. Got em done by dad holding tight in the kitchen; But this is not that safe a method.

your best bet are the snap clip fasteners velcro is not a good choice to secure them on.as for english bulls etc I use a chow muzzle 4 paws makes them although I have found it more difficult these days to find the blue ones.for pugs etc I use a large cat muzzle if I have to or can.Ecollar comes in handy also.

I saw an interesting idea at the All American grooming show. According to the sales person it was designed by a vet. What is was quite simply was a piece of that cushioned flooring material... the kind that comes in colors like they use for kids play rooms about 3/4 inch thick. What is was ... a piece of it cut into a strip, they ranged in size from 4 inches wide to 6 inches wide, length was according to width size. I think the longest was only about 12-16 inches long... near the ends, they cut a slice set back from the very end at least 1 inch just wide enough to put through a very wide piece of velcro... that largest one was the super wide size of close to 2 inches but the smaller ones has inch wide stuff.
The idea (which by the way works!) is to put this strip around the neck so the flooring material is (like the neck braces we might get at a hospital) snug enough to stay in place without being to tight causing the dog to freak. The velcro was long enough to really wrap over itself (when I tried to pull it apart, I could actually hang by it without it puling apart!)
This was soooo simple it was almost ridiculous! but it works. It keeps the dog from being able to turn it's head!
When you get any breed that cannot be muzzled because of head shape or size OR a dog that knows what a muzzle is.... this idea really works. He was selling them for a good price btu I thought.. hmmm,I can make my own... I did! The matting stuff is not very expensive at can be gotten at most hardware or sporting goods stores, velcro... only buy what you need. These can be made for less that $5 each... can be cleaned very easily and so simple!

In the vet tech program I went too they mentioned there are special muzzles for the brachiocephalic breeds. I'm sure you could find them online. You do want to watch their breathing more closely though due to the breathing issues they tend to have. I think an e-collar would be easier on the dog if it allows you to do what your needing to do.

If youl were using the correct sized e collar he cannot get you. they are longer than the nose and prevent the head from reaching out. I have also heard of using the Air Muzzle, for cats, on snub nosed dogs.My Blog The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. –Mark Twain

Petgroomaustralia had this wicked brilliant idea which she posted. Here it is: "I'm putting on his muzzle and e collar so he wont pull his muzzle off, when I suddenly have a brilliant idea. I went and got another e collar and taped the 2 together at the wide ends and made my own air muzzle. I could still dry his head through the front hole and could extract each ear as needed. I cut the tabs off the end that went over his head so that it went on easily and then used a leash clip to attach it to the grooming noose so that it wouldnt come off. I used a size that was fairly loose around his neck so I could still dry the hair around his neck easily. AND the little stinker stood like a statue the whole groom, no difficult behaviour for anything, not even his head after I took it off which may be because he behaved for the rest of the groom and wasnt hyped up by bad behaviour. I also didnt have to deal with the wet mouth that a muzzle usually causes."
It sounds like it will work really well. She's a smart cookie.
