  • The barter system.

Does anyone else exchange services. Grooming for hairdressing, car repair, locally grown food, daycare, etc...?

I'm finding I'm doing this more and more, and I love it.

I was thinking about advertising this... but not sure if it's such a good idea.
I dream of a society that has self sustainted communities, where people help out one another, like they used to... and if i'm going to spend the money anyway... why not?

    I do some...

I have a dentist that I have groomed his maltese every week for a year and I have a "credit" at his office. I groom a radio station manager's dog for free air time, I also have a client with a condo at the beach I groom her 3 shih tzus for "anytime condo's not in use." I also have a few others and it works well. Now if only I could get the power company, cell phone company and garbage pick up to do this.... Hmmmmmm

      I trade with my hairdresser.
She would bring her babies in and pay me a yorkie price and a tip. I would go to her a week latter and pay her a yorkie price and a tip. We finally figured it out. It is great.

I used to belong to an actual barter organization. I seemed to have gotten the short end of that stick. I only do direct barter now. I am more than happy to barter for massage, chiropractic care, auto repair, acupuncture, hair styling, tattooing, once I even bartered for a motorcycle. I used to have a sign in my lobby that said I only accepted cash, check or barter. If I wasn't interested in the item/service someone was offering I was under no obligation to accept their services. I love barter, just make sure you can do without the money if the person on the other end of the agreement decides to stiff you. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

I have in the past with my old hairdresser and do from time to time with my current hairdresser.
AND as "funny" as this may be, I traded services earlier this week with one of the tattooists next door for a couple of belly piercings for both my daughters (He was the one who asked). Anyway, he was expecting just one grooming but I told him he got two since he pierced 2 belly buttons and he charges us the same price as the dog grooming.

I also do my friends g'parents dog for free since she has no grooming pets and she & her fiance did all the building on my salon. Bartering works wonders if you make sure both ends are equally rewarded.

I trade with my chiropractor, and with my client whom is building my new website. Before my hairdresser moved away, we exchanged hair/tanning for grooming her dog..........it's great with my chiropractor, as he brings his scottie every 3 weeks...........

Yeah, sure, I barter services with my bartender. Of course, his dog doesn't look very good when I'm finished. LOL! (J.K.)

I trade with my hairstylist for my grooming. I also trade with my dentist, I bathe the dog weekly in exchange for a credit at his office... nice! I also traded grooming for business cards, she did a lovely job too. I like bartering, and I try to offer it when I know a client is having a hard time financially... lots of people have or do useful things! you never know!

Bartering can be awesome. I only know of midwives or doulas bartering, but I know many other people do it. As long as youre careful, it can be extremely useful.

                              my website

don't know what I would do without her. She charges big bucks so her dog is my savior. At the lowest of the recession when a couple of clients were feeling the pinch, I got photography done, computer work, - I only barter with old clients- and only if I know they have no alternative.
Of course my website was a calculated investment one of my fav Brussels Griffs!
