Ticks epidemic, what do you do?

I am originally from upstate NY where you find a tick on a dog here and there you pick it off squish it and clean the wound no big deal. Here in Florida Ticks have been Impossible. regular flea and tick shampoos do not kill them no matter how long you let it sit on the dog. We do not have a winter freeze so The ticks seem to be becoming an epidemic. at least once a week we have at least one dog come into the shop that is just infested with the little buggers. I mean what do you do? we can Shave them down if the owner will agree to it which usually they don't, bathe them with our shampoos let them soak and pick as many off as possible but truthfully it would take all day to do that on some of these dogs (I groom an old English sheep dog in particular) but it doesn't help we have been recommending the normal topical treatments Advatix and vet chemical dips we tell our customers that they need to have their yards and houses treated by a professional pest control company and they need to do these things all on the same day. But still even after all their efforts it is still a losing battle. I have had customers at past grooming shops I've worked at that battled ticks for over a year and still no real success. Does anyone else have simillar issues and what do you do about it or suggest to your customers. I'm very curious because I'm running out of suggestions

Have you tried Quadruped flea and tick shampoo? It works really well, smells great, AND is tearless.

now that you mention it...this is the first year I have pulled ANY ticks off dogs, even monthly regulars. 99% of them are on Advantix or Comfortis. I am in Pinellas County, FLA and I had not seen ticks in years. Not a lot as I only groom small dogs, but 2 or 3 on two small dogs was a rarity for me to see. I can just imagine what a large dog would have.

I am in the Clearwater Fl area.I will not let a tick infested dog in my shop.It just is not worth it.Let the vets deal with it.There will never be a level of compensation to offset the potential loss.The same ticks that are impossible to kill on a dog,are the same ticks that will be impossible to kill in your shop.There are several vets/boarding kennels in the area with signs posted warning that they have a tick problem.They are spotless clean, well kept,with impeccable reputations.Just the exterminators can't get rid of the ticks.I have a client who purchased a several million dollar home last year that had to be gutted to get rid of ticks.They tried everything the exterminators had to offer,the county extension office was involved,nothing worked!!! At that point I decided to just say no.If I see ticks you are outta here!!

tell them to try preventic or ticarrest collars, same product made by faram, one is vet only one is overthe counter. does'nt kill ticks just paralizes the mouth parts and they can't bite.it will detach in about 24 hours, killing them??? much luck.

I wish I could do that unfortunately I do not own the business so I really have no say. I have suggested that on more than one occasion to my boss. As for those tick collars they also do not work. The last shop I worked in had a tick problem in Lakeland and dogs with those collars were getting ticks and it was not helping dogs that had ticks get rid of them. There are no flea and tick shampoos that i have used that work I'm pretty sure that none of them do. I just wanted to see if anyone had had any similar issues and what you have done in your shops. But if anyone has any suggestions I'm definitely open to them
