  • So excited! (OT)

Last night we went to my daughters HS to watch the chorus do the first concert of this year. They were truly AMAZING!!!! I can see now why they have won so many competitions and even a couple of national championships (never knew that chorus's had championships...lol).

Being that she is a freshman my daughter didn't sing much last night. BUT her teacher (who is a retired award winning opera singer) contacted me a few weeks ago to tell me that she thinks Katie has PHENOMINAL singing potential and that she would like permission to be able to work extra w/her this spring when things slow down. She said Katie is the next female Phantom of the Opera (not quite sure what that means but I think its good...lol).

Its so exciting because we never knew Katie could sing like this.....she didn't know either.....lol She never sang opera type music before. Shes a bit shy about it but I have been able to get her to sing to me some of the songs she is learning and I just don't even know what to say.......except she sounds awesome.

Just had to share even though it is beyond OT.....lol

What a wonderful gift! You must be very proud of her! Maybe she'll be Broadway bound??

That is awesome!! Singing can be such a beautiful and fun thing...I used to take voice lessons and was always in a choir or an a capella group. In college I started having trouble with my vocal chords and now can't sing at all. I miss it!! Good luck to your daughter!

        Wow!

Singing is one thing, but opera is another, and not everyone who can sing, however beautifully, can sing opera - so this is a definite gift and one that only a voice teacher would likely recognize!!

Congrats to your daughter - tell her to have fun!

That's wonderful. I hope she continues with it.

I heard my oldest daughter sing one time. Scared the hell out of me. lol.

That is really neat Sheila. (Hubby's genes?)
If she is good at it, and has the interest in pursuing it...sure could open up a whole world of possibilities. "Phantom" is my favorite... she must be pretty darn good for her teacher to compare her potential to something in that arena!

Nope, not hubby's genes, I guess they are probably from my side (though DEFINATELY skipped a generation). The only person that I can think of that can sing from either side of the family was my Aunt Deb. Other than that we all sound.......indescribably not good. Though when I sing as I vacuum my birds do tend to get rather vocal, I don't know that's a compliment.

I didn't get any video as we don't have a video camera. My hubby did record from his phone, but screwed up and it has no sound....lol

I am proud for you! Singing brings music into the world! My kids luckily got their musical genes as well, and I think listening to them sing and harmonize and try to play piano or guitar or drums is a blast! Snaps to your Daughter, and tell her to belt it out for the world to hear! Don't waste that talent!
