I have a converted garage for a grooming shop and right now I just sell my customer's favorite shampoo and a few collars for retail. I think I'd like to rearrange my shop a little to carry some more retail. For those of you w/small shops what kinds of items do you find sell? Is it even worth it? Also, as groomers are we allowed to buy K9 Advantix/Frontline, etc. and sell the vials individually? A couple vets up here do it because so many people can't afford $60 all at once and a couple of my customers have told me it would be very convenient if I could. Thanks.

I have a home grooming salon and I retail. My best seller is dog clothes even though the Dutch are very difficult to sell dog clothes to "dogs are meant to be dogs and not to be dress up toys". Next to that I sell colognes and shampoo's the most. I also have leashes and collars but they don't all that great right now.I'm really just a little dog in a big dog's body (I really should cut down on those milk bones).

I would love to do that, but I have a full time job and I have to focus on the part time grooming part. I don't want to deal with the tax stuff on top of everything else.
So, It's NOT "worth it" for me right now, but when I have more time I will probably be selling a lot of rakes, eys boogie combs and colonge. that's what I have for input so far...

I sell a few items- a nice display of Lupine collars & leads, shampoo, conditioner, bandanas with clasps and some grooming tools. I would say the collars & leads sell the best, followed by the grooming tools, then the bandanas & shampoo.
Is it worth it? I don't do it to substantially increase my income but the displays are attractive and some people appreciate being able to buy these things here, rather than at W.M. And I couldn't do anything else with the space, so why not?The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit. ~Nelson Henderson
