Can I beg of someone to explain to me 'hot oil treatment' and it's benefits?

A hot oil treatment is for a dog with dry coat and itchy skin. much like we would use for ourselves.
The old fashioned way is this electric coffee pot thingy that you heat the water and oil in and saturate the dog's coat with the solution, then rinse it off....as far as I remember.
What I prefer to do is to use a good conditioner or re-moisturizer, add a bit of hot (not scalding) water, just enough to make it un-gloppy, then just saturate the dog's coat with it. I then get a hot towel (again not to burn the dog, but to keep the heat in. If it's too hot for you to handle, then it's too hot...common sense.) and I wrap that around the dog for at least five min., then rinse. you can feel the softness in their coat afterwards. I like it better then hot oil...it's easier and doesn't leave the coat greasy. I refer to it as a "moister pak ", and of course charge xtra. -
Just like in humans, dogs hair that is extremely dry and brittle (think sun damaged hair) can be re-moisturized with a hot oil treatment. It is good for dry winter itchy skin too. Its not a permanent fix, but it does help make the hair feel softer, brush out better and adds shine.
I use Natures Specialties Remoisturizing Treatment. Put some in a small bottle, put the bottle in a bucket of hot water for a few minutes and -"voila"- hot oil treatment. If you are in a salon, the microwave for a few seconds works too.Comment

This is what I use as well, but I just put some in a bottle and add hot water (obviously not too hot), shake and apply. Sometimes I add a few extra drops of jojoba oil to it, and on really dry itchy dogs I will add the jojoba to the shampoo and the conditioner as well.Comment
