  • OMG She did NOT just say that!~!!!

I was just flipping channels and stopped for a minute on Dogs 101 (Animal Planet) They are doing a show on Designer dogs.

Dr Halligan was on talking about the Goldendoodle. She actually said "So if you want that personality of the Golden Retriever, but you "DONT WANT TO DO ALL THAT GROOMING, this is the dog for you"

I just stared at the TV with my mouth dropped open, then I had to come here and vent to you. (Bangs head on desk)

I'm pretty sure what she meant was "YOU, don't want to do all that grooming, this is the dog for you" and [edited out was the rest]... so line yourself up w/ a professional and patient groomer and be prepared to have your cute puppy shaved at the age of 7 months and from that moment on.... pay big bucks every 5 to 7 weeks to maintain your Goldendoodle in the condition you see this "raising false hopes" example, in".
Often it's not what you say, but how you say it.

            OMG!

What is with vets? Should'nt they at least have a basic knowledge of breed requirements? Every time you turn around they are making some lame a$$ comment about how this dog only needs to be groomed a few times a year and that dog you can wash with baby shampoo and your groomer gave your dog an ear infection... UGG! This always chaps my backside. VETS! POO!

I caught the end of it, and yes, they just glorified all of them. They even put up on the screen all of those "cutsie" little names.
don't find yourself up a creek without a poodle.

I had a client with a golden doodle and he brought me information off the internet that said you do not ever have to shave your golden doodle. It also went on to say that they do not matt up!!? Oh, by the way, this dog was always matted!! and I had to shave her almost all the time. It is sad when bad information gets out there and the client believes it.

                        Oh my freaking gawd...

Yes, our local 'doodle breeders tell folks the breed is so wonderful because they hardly ever need grooming. The combination of poodle with X makes a breed with faaaaabulous coat that never needs to be clippered or shaved or brushed.

Where did I leave my magic wand again?

Oh brother. I have friends all the time that "discover" the show Groomer Has It and call me telling me to go on it! I'm like...I'd consider it if it were actually about practical grooming and not just ratings. Most of the time my go to answer for why not is "Doc" Halligan. What a joke!
There are 3 different kinds of people in this world: Dog people, cat people, and rational people who don't have a problem liking two things at the same time.
