  • The Wish Bone.... A true story (longish)

When my daughter was 2 we got a Chihuahua puppy... She named him Freddie Boy. And they were inseperable. Two little monsters on a mission to destroy! When Fred was 1 1/2 he ran away. We were not able to find him. We searched and searched.... checked shelters ect. No luck. My daughter was devestated. for the next four years all she talked about was Freddie coming home. Of course we had given up hope. Last year she made a wish with the turkey wishbone.... We said "Don't tell or your wish will not come true!" Later that night she said "Momma, I wished for Freddie to come home". How could I tell her that that was a wasted wish. He was gone and not coming back. Besides we had since replaced him with a Frenchie and already had two other dogs. Two days later we get a call from an animal hospital about 2 hours away. They say.. We have your dog. We are like WTF? OMG! It cannot be possible my husband says. So I say " well he's microchipped, so it must be him". My husband (not a dog person) says"What do we do?" I'm like r u kidding me???? We go get him! NOW!!!!" So off we go. When we get there we cannot believe what we see... our little chihuahua had turned into a one eyed beast! He was so over weight he could hardly walk and was missing his eye, but my daughter just ran to him and hugged him in tears. So we brought him home. It was so weird, like he had never been gone a day. And he remembered me and our pitbull SweetPea. We did make every effort to locate his "owners" but he had no current ID and part of me was glad. I thought I would share that story.. I was thinking back to that day as I was cleaning off our wishbone from this years turkey.... Wonder what we will wish for this year??

Wow, what a sweet story! It sounds like one of those you'd read in "chicken soup for the dog lover's soul".

        Is that dog part JRT?

I was going to accuse you of holding out on us with this story, but then I noticed you'd JUST joined Petgroomer.com in September. Wait...you were still holding out on us, you should have joined a long time ago to tell us this story. Shame on you!

Well, at least we FINALLY got the heartwarming story, and at a perfect time of year. Thanks for sharing, it was so good, I even repeated it to my husband who is getting ready to leave for the day!

Beautiful little girl you have - and yes, whoever asked about the dog being part JRT, he DOES look like he is, doesn't he?? Any Chi people want to weigh in on that?

You have beautiful kid and a lovely dog. I'd say Debbie Dogs is correct about the JRT mix. The animal eye Dr. told me that when a dog loses an eye they only lose something like 15% of their vision due to the way their fields of vision over lap (If that is any consolation to you.)
