The one by Melissa Verplank is called "Whiskers; a learning journal" and it has all kinds of bow making ideas, step by step, etc...I'm hoping she'll be selling them at her seminar this Friday. If so, I'm getting one!

Melissa's book will give you the basics that you need to practice, practice, practice. Learning to tie the bows is the hard part. After that, just use your imagination to dress them up. A dab of craft glue and attach whatever adornments your little heart desires. That's the easy part.

I picked up Whiskers in Atlanta. It's a book to learn the basics. Well written with good diagrams.

Some suggestions; tiny silk flowers. You can cut up sprays of little flower, or look in the sewing notions and bridal section. Lots of little flowers in assorted colors.

Kids buttons. Get ones that don't have a shank if you want to glue them on easily. Sports themed buttons for little boys are great for dressing up top knot bows for boy dogs.

Also check out beading and jewelry making supplies. Lots and lots of stuff you can use there.

                        Pixie's Posies!

Have you tried making "bows" out of silk flowers? It is so easy. All you need are some silk flowers, fake strung pearls and rubber bands.

What you do is take apart a silk flower. Stick your hemos through the center of the flower, the biggest part of the flower on the hemo first. Grab a rubberband with the end of hemos, catch the rubberband through the middle of two strung pearls, and pull the rubberband through the center of the flower. Now the center of the flower is the two pearls. If the flower is big, I sometimes pull the rubberband through the center of a couple of leaves from the stem of the flower and use the creation on a collar. For the smaller flowers, I forget the leaves and use them like regulars bows. They are cute and my clients love them in the spring and summer. Once you make them, you can easily store them on a straw so that the flower does not fall apart.

I love adorning basic bows with seasonal accents just be careful of the size and nature of the accents you pick. I avoid anything hard or large enough for a dog to choke on. Pom poms add alot of color, small felt hearts, shamrocks, etc. are readily available as are tiny silk flowers. My father's wife is crocheting me a huge variety of accents for ribbon bows or stand-alone for top knot bows. Pet Edge had little crocheted butterflies that I loved and after I showed them to my step mother she just went wild with little flowers, shamrocks, butterflies, hearts, etc. She crochetes the grooming bands right in so they're set to go. My local discount store had $1 beaded shamrock necklaces. I cut the shamrock beads separate and glued to the center of regular flat ear bows -- very cute. The pre-cut foam type craft shapes glue very easily to bows and a big bag is relatively cheap, many have adhesive backs already. Sometimes there are cute accents in the scrapbooking section of discount/craft stores. I constantly keep an eye out for small bow decorations!

                            Easiest bow to make ever...............

Loop the ribbon (to look like "awareness" ribbons) fold the top of the loop to the part where the ribbon crosses put a rubberband in the center and wrap it 3x. Easy as can be.

These are the bows that we make and they are sooo easy to dress up. You can make a big bow w/fat ribbon, make a smaller one w/skinny ribbon and piggyback them. Then attach a feather or flowers or whatever w/hot glue or craft glue. Easy as pie and looks really snazzy. I really do need to pick up Melissa's book though and learn some different styles. It does get a little boring doing the same kind, even w/the accessories.
