my old mikki brand were getting old and were having trouble getting through my dogs nails. i saw the recommendations for bamboo brand clippers on here so i ordered 2 and they arrived recently. i tested them out on my dog and they are as blunt as anything! pretty much crushed the nail. the styptic container falls out on every cut too! so upset. 40 bucks on something that wont cut.

what other brands do people recommend? i was going to buy the millers forge ones but took a chance on the bamboo instead. which one out of the millers forge orange handled ones is the one most people use? the 'large dog nail clip' or 'professional nail clip' [this one has a black locking device]?

My bamboos have been excellent, I now have a large pair and small. Send them back, or send them to the sharpeners. If you have blades to be sharpened, The Blade Guys (who are highly recommended by many on this website, including me), will sharpen your nail clippers for free if you send some blades as well.

My bamboos have been great. I don't care for the styptic container, in fact it fell out and I'm not sure where it has ended up. No big loss as far as I'm concerned. But I do like the clipper it self.

I agree with what Spikey mentioned, either send it back or send it to the blade guys with some of your blades to get it sharpened.

ive emailed bamboo and they have not responded yet. i also notified the ebay seller but i get the feeling they wont be too helpful. i will give bamboo a few more days to respond then i will push for the seller to refund. im thinking perhaps a bad batch was made. id prefer to get a refund than resharpen just incase it is a bad batch. wouldnt want to void the warranty then have something else go wrong.

p.s. so does anyone know which orange handled millers forge are the best?

What brand of quik-stop Works best?

Somehow oilk leaked into my quik-stop container. Yuxcky mess. I have an off brand that is like diatmacious earth powder...very fine and barely works. I use some stuff called kwik-stop. Yellow. The liquid doesn't work well and can't squeeze out of bottle.Nails (bleeding) are the bane of my exsistance. Have you noticed they doin't work as fast or as well as in the early years? Is it me?

I was just wondering the percentage of groomers that dremel nails instead of traditional clipping of toenails?

I clip all nails, and then will dremel if the owners request it.

I can't compare between them but I have always used the orange ones and they work great. I would recomend them.

I use only kwik stop brand from now on. I bought top performance brand styptic powder, and you cant leave the lid off the jar even overnight. It draws moisture and hardens into a solid 'rock.' The stuff is just about useless to me.

I dremel when I can. I prefer it. But there are some dogs that I just have to go FAST clip clip clip, then I use the manuel trimmers.

Generally I clip the nails first, then I dremmel if the owner needs the nails smooth (older person with thin skin) or if they request it.

I do the same as Spikey and Lauren too. Clip then dremmel. Some of my regulars who come in every 2 weeks I just dremmel a bit. As for clippers, i really like Resco. I'm a big fan! I do have a pair of millers forge plier type nail clippers. I don't use them much, but they were sharp and have stayed sharp. I just always reach for my trusty Resco's!!!

II Have The Little Orange Clippers w/ Black lock

The nail clippers work fine, and I have an Oster dremel, free w/ Osters. I have to unplug dryer and Ivac to use. I also have a power strip, but it is under my electric table and hard for my knees to kneel to get to. Many older folks need dremel, cuz, yeah tihn skin. Lately dogs jump up at me 2-3 in one family. I bruise easily and my legs are VERY sensitive to their nails in my legs. I express pain but owners just don't take they off me. It kind of irritated me. Do they do this to every guest? I told her it really HURT! I did a great job on # Schnauzers, and she (they) were happy. Husband just kept watching the movie on tv and never came over to get the dogs OFF me.hahahah. What do you guys do when the dogs jump on you? I don't give them the knee. I will start a thread to be sure I get an answer.

I have the big orange ones with the little locking clip on the side. They work great!
