  • OOOOH those Labradoodle People!

I groomed a doodle puppy for the second time on Thursday. Toby is about 7 months old and huge and goofy and very strong w/it. For his first groom he was a good boy. I used an E comb w/the CV and lightly trimmed all around, the owner was very happy. I did the same thing this time, though w/lots more difficulty. Even w/the GH he was super wiggley, managed to claw my arms and neck so I looked like I had been in a fight w/a Saber Tooth Tiger and he broke my necklace which I have worn for YEARS to work w/no one breaking it. After working on his finish groom for almost an HOUR I had to say GOOD ENOUGH!!!

Well, I was in the bathing room when he went home. I asked Julia if the owner was happy and she said, "NO! she said you went too short this time and that you made him look like a poodle". Errrrrr, I wish I had been up front so I could have showed them my arms and broken necklace!!! Julia also said she told them that I did the same trim on him, but the lady said he was lots shorter this time. Whatever!!! I was aggravated enough that I told Julia "good, if she was unhappy enough maybe she will take him somewhere else. No such luck, Julia told me that she wanted to let me know so I didn't do the same thing on him next time!! I guess I will just look on the positive side of it. He will hopefully grow out of his bratty teenage yrs....lol...soon enough and be a good Doodle.

What's with those Doodle dogs. I do a Goldendoodle who does that same thing. I leave there with scratches all over my arms, chest, back. I started trying to pick up his opposite leg every time he tried to strike out at me nd hold it for a time. It seems to be working a little, but those grooms are painful. He's a pup too, so we have'nt started trimming on him yet, except for scissoring around the eyes and nose. I tried to use the clippers to clip out an ear mat, and he went balistic on me. I don't think he's going to like clippers, EVER.

LOL, I've had a lot of dogs like that. They are little angels the 1st time and you think the next time it's going to be a breeze...HA! It's as if they figured out you're not going to hurt them, so let's see what I can win.

I've had the same complaint from a scotty owner too. I do the same thing every time and once or twice a year, she thinks I went "too short last time". I've learned to just smile and nod and write "not as short" on the instruction sheet with a circled W that is my code for "WHATEVER"!

Ooo, I'd be mad as heck, Sheila. But I probably would have responded the same way you did, lol.

I wonder if the coat has changed, so that it is possibly appearing shorter, if that makes sense?

How dare you Poodle her Doodle!

Yep, the Doodle owners can be difficult. They've been brainwashed into thinking this is some kind of new superbreed . I had one guy call to enquire about the price for his 85 lb 9mo old pup (never been groomed) and he asked me if "I'm familiar with the breed". I told him I'm familiar with the mix, lol. He went on to tell me he's not going to show it( where would he nehow?) and that he wanted "the correct pet trim for him" Huh?

::Fainting:: Oh my gosh, that is a hoot, what on EARTH are these folks being told when they spend that load of cash on these critters? Too bad he's not going to "show" him, I bet you could do a pretty nice "Show trim" on it.

I seriously don't know how I will respond when/if I get a request like the one above. I don't want to offend them with telling them they got cheated into thinking they got something they didn't, but on the other hand, I don't want them thinking there is some kind of a special "breed trim" on the little beast!

LOL I get those doodle people too.
"Don't make him look like a poodle!"
I have quite a few I groom and only one is well behaved. The others wont stand for nothing, hate the HV hate the clippers, don't want to be touched, have bees in thier pants, you know where I'm going with this one LOL

They do act proud that they pay a fortune for these dogs. I wonder how long the "designers" will be a fad.

I walked by woman walking a definite "doodle" I believed it was a labradoodle. I started asking Oh is that a? She interrupts Labradoole? I said yes. she says oh no it's just a standard poodle but my husband doesn't want a Fifi cut so it looks like a labradoode.

What? Maybe I haven't seen tons of doodles, but have seen oodles of poodles and that was not a purebreed standard poodle.

You gotta love the doddle owners who say "don't make them look like a poodle". But what about the folks who HAVE a full blooded poodle and say "don't make them look like a poodle". LOL.

I was thinking like Tammy that the coat probably changed some. I have had it happen quite a bit where the owner said the dog looked shorter or longer than last time, and I did the exact same thing.

Don't make him look like a Poo

Poodles seem to be so famous that we can make any breed look like them and the its VERY imprtant that we NOT make thier dog look like one regandless of heritage. Lab, nufies, shihtzu you name it. Its a request right up thier with "puppy cut". I got one of those once that was not listening to a thing I said and every question was answered with "i just want a puppy cut" so i got evil and asked So you want me to make him look like a poodle with a shaved face and feet.(on a little dog that did not have a trace of poodle in it). I was laughing so hard inside but they suddenly stoped insisting on "just a puppy cut" and communication improved greatly.

I have a doodle owner who thinks she should show her doodle as well!!! Unreal. Plus she's NEVER happy with the groom I give her. The first 3 times I did it the same way, no prob. Then the 4th time all of a sudden it was WAY TOO SHORT! So I cut her a little longer the next time, she called a couple weeks later and said she was sooooo overgrown, we've got to move our appt up 2 wks!!! Then she comes in and says she likes her fluffy, just neaten her up. I give her a BB, and she comes up with the show comment. I am grooming in circles with this one!
