  • I finally made the move!!!

I've been working at the same place for the past 5 years, there's been good times and bad times over the years, but the past year has just been going from bad to worse as the shop owner just seemed to be getting greedier and crazier.
So about six months ago I finally got serious about looking for a new job, sent out a bunch of resumes, tried a couple of places on a part time basis, but I was really cautious, fear of change, I guess, and I didn't want to be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I've been in this business for a long time, and I've seen some really crazy places. Also I was making decent money, and I can't afford to be without a job.
So I believe I finally found what I've been looking for. I've spent a bit of time there, groomed a few dogs for them, and Monday I start there full time!! WOO-HOO!! I feel so good about this. Yesterday was my last day at the old place, and I feel as if a thousand pound weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now I'm going to enjoy my nice long three day weekend, and start fresh on Monday.

        Congratulations

Hopefully things will stay calm for you at your new place. It does seem that sometimes things start out ok and fall down hill after time at some places I am going to be careful in my search for my next position also and try starting out part-time and taking it from there. Best of luck to you.

You're not in Kansas anymore, AuntieM! Congrats, nothing like a great new job. Let us know all about it next week, I love hearing about stuff like this. I know how it feels to find the "perfect" job, as that is where I am now, I feel like it is "perfect" for me. Once again, congrats!

Thanks for the replies, this weekend seems to be passing slowly for me, as I'm really looking forward to getting started in the new place.
And Tammy, I especially appreciate your post, as my new job is in a Vet clinic also. I've worked in three different Vet hospitals over the course of my career, two of them were OK, the third was the best job I ever had in my life, I absolutely loved it. I'd be there still if I hadn't moved back home to Chicago. When I went in for my first interview at this new place, I got the exact same feeling about it as that place. It's hard to describe, but it's just something about the atmosphere of compassion and caring. Believe me, I'm about as far from being all New Agey as you can get, but there were definite "good vibes" going on.
For my second interview, I spent the day with the groomer I'm replacing, who
is leaving for reasons that have nothing to do with the clinic, but with her unhappiness with grooming as a profession. She had been in advertising for 17 years, and wanted a change, and as a dog lover felt that grooming would be good. She went to school, and has only been grooming for 6 months and has realised she's not cut out for it. But she loves the clinic and the people working there, wants to stay on as a part time receptionist.
As for not being in Kansas any more, I'd have to compare the place I just left to a location further down and a LOT hotter.LOL

YES! That sounds like just the place I am at! It is so wonderful. And the groomer leaving, that's too bad, but I wonder if it's just hard for her with lack of experience and not having other groomers around to learn from? That's too bad, but at least she has another skill on her list---and you have a new job! So once again, I can't wait to hear all about it.

So do they supply kennels/dryers/shampoos, etc...what are the things you "get" with this job, besides the "Thank the good Lord I am now working ALONE!" LOL

I'm so happy for you! I love where I work, and can't imagine working anywhere else! I think that atmosphere is so important. If you have a bad day at the shop because of attitudes, and other things, it can totally drain you! This can be stressful enough without other pressures such as a difficult boss! I wish you luck on your first day, and definitely hope that you like this place so much better!

Well, one of the things the outgoing groomer said was that she hadn't realized how "labor intensive" grooming is. Yeah, it is that. I had to kind of laugh though, 'cuz she's about 20 years younger than me, I'm a pretty old broad. Seriously, she seems like a real sweetheart, she just simply doesn't like the WORK. I, on the other hand, am a glutton for punishment, and love to groom. I really hope she does stay on as a receptionist.
They supply everything, except for my actual grooming tools, I have my own clippers, shears and so forth. They have a Hydro-surge bathing system, kennels, dryers (HV, cage and stand) and a nice hydraulic table, with the groomers helper already in place. The only thing they don't have that I'd like is a clipper-vac' I figure I'll wait until I prove myself to be indespensible (maybe a couple of weeks) before I start agitating for that.

Sounds like it should be pretty easy to prove yourself. Get that clipper vac!
