  • Fleas - They're Here!!

EEEEEEEK........I had 3 infested doggies yesterday. Oh my, with the warmer weather the fleas are definitely here! After just 1 bath yesterday, it looked like someone took a pepper shaker to the tub...Uggggh...Rescheduled appointments today so I could fumigate my shop. Everyone was so understanding and glad I called...To whoever never sees a flea - ya'll are SOOOOOO lucky!

I can really sympathize with you

Years ago I moved from Wisconsin, where I had learned to groom, to Savannah, Ga. OMG, I could NOT believe the flea problem down there...this was in the days before Frontline and Advantage and so forth. The first time I put a dog in the tub, and the water ran off of him blood red from the flea dirt I thought I'd die.
I am so happy to be back in the frozen North, where I might see two or three flea dogs a year...with two or three fleas on them.

AuntieM, I don't even see that many in my frozen part of the country. In the last 2 years I've seen one dog with one flea. Now I know why I love it here in No. Utah.

I can deal with finding fleas, but god I hate ticks. They give me the creapy crawlie itchies for days. In this day and age there is no excuse for a flea infested dog.

I just had an infested dog today. One of those "red water" dogs. He's infested every time he comes to my shop so I'm always prepared for it, but I really didn't expect it to be as bad as it was today, with it being winter in WI.

But yeah.... ticks are the worst!!! Well, other then maggots.

Welcome to my world in South Florida. We never get rid of the flea and ticks!! My vet recommends applying flea protection every 2 weeks instead of once a month all year long ( if the dog is outside alot or there is a HUGE problem at home with them )- it is that bad!! Almost all my grooms are flea/tick baths so much for all the nice smelling shampoo's I have!! They say if we ever have a nuclear attack that the only thing left living would be cockroaches- I say add ticks and fleas to that list also!!

I haven't seen any infested ones yet, but I have seen dogs with a few fleas. I say I would give it about two weeks here, then I think I will really be seeing them.
