How many of you have never groomed a standard poodle? Am I the only one? I don't even know anyone that has one, ha!

They seem to be more popular in some cities than in others. I only have about 5 I do on a regular basis, and they are all like a 4 or 5 utility clip--thank goodness! If I had to scissor them more than just tail and topknot, I'd probably send them down the road. My old fingers can't keep up like they used to.

I've done bunch but most are #3-#5 utility clip also, I did on that was just a neaten but then was a #3 the next time and I did a lamb clip twice in grooming school on a beautiful black standard. I lost my pictures when my computer crashed. Wahhhhh!!!!! I would like to scissor a nice puppy cut on a standard like the one in the photo section under extreme makeover. Don't have the room in my apartment for another big dog with my Sonny and four kittes. Maybe I can sneak in a toy poodle to practice on ROFL!! Don't let my husband see that one.

I groom tons of standards- they are very popular around here. Many are just utitlity clips and many owners don't like clean feet or faces. But I do a fair amount that do like CF & F also. I do a few that get tail and leg poms and I have two who get Royal Dutch clips. The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit. ~Nelson Henderson

prior to working in the shop in Ohio I only groomed one standard. He was a total buzz down , owner request. They lived on a farm and the standard was an all round kinda family member. Then .....after working in Ohio which had many standards then helping with a handler showing //kinda got a crash course in Poodles. Loved every minute of it. And learned so much bout them standards.
Now I am owned by Angel the standard in the pic...and yep I do all kinds of crazy things with her coat. Some day I will perfect the many trims....hopefully. Presently she is in a German trim, though in the pic she is abit messy....hehe.. she is a grand girl.
The shop I work out of now has a few standards all with CFFT, rest of body usually they want 3 or 4 all over....but the one owner is really liking what Angel looks like and may be giving a better profile to that pet....

I've got 3 white standards (one gets a short cut, one gets a puppy cut, scissor legs, and one gets whatever the heck the owner/I want to do with him.I've also got my boss' mom's 2 black standards. One's former show so she's in a puppy cut and the other's growing for show. From the 2 blacks came a litter recently, so I'm sure I'll be seing more back if I stay there any length of time. I looooove grooming poodles.
I just wish I could cut down on time. Drying is a killer, even WITH some of the tricks I've learned here. There's of course the load of time taken in clipping/scissoring too.

They all take 1 and a half to 2 hours, start to finish, for full grooms...I scissor alot because I like the finished look and get more practice that way. Since all the clients and my own poodles are on very regular schedules there is not matting or bad behavior to deal with.Making Central Florida Pawsitively Purrfect since 2005.
