  • New Blenders

No not the kind that sit on the kitchen counter and mix things up! LOL

Just got back from Burbank, I was amazed to see the trend in finishing now. Everything is top thinned. Sue, Chris, all the instructors seemed to be working in the same direction, that of top thinning a coat rather then scissoring for a crisp look. The trend seems to be soft, and you get that by using blenders or thinners.

    Point of information...
Blenders have 1 toothed blade where thinners have both blades with teeth!

Now for the neatest thing ...Arius Eikart (newly purchased by Sunbeam/Oster) has a new Blender out that is the just the neatest thing. It is the 28 tooth Blender, looks like huge blade with very open tooth, but WOW what it can to to erase clipper lines and gouges from regular shears! WOW! Chris P, used them on almost all of her demos the teeth are different than most old fashioned blenders, they have more area at the edge, almost like a regular shear rather than a notched tooth.

I used mine for the first time yesterday, OMG talk about fast , smooth out. Where have these thing been all my life!?

Pet edge has them in Blue Titanium coating, Ryan's has them in the polished regular finish. You need to check these babies out if you get a chance! You will not be sorry! Ryan's took 36 pair to Burbank, and sold every one. Show cost was just over $150, regular price is just over $250 but worth EVERY penny!

Do you know if they plan to be at intergroom?

I'd like to check it out and get to see how they work. Did they happen to mention anything about being in NJ in April? I would certainly like to get tem for that show price you mentioned. I just love coming on here and learning so... many cool new things from others it really saves a lot of time of researching individually.

        Ooooh!

Sounds great, Pam! Are you saying no more scissor marks on even dogs with cr*ppy straight coats, like Lhasas? Or just Poos and such?

Yeah, pretty much, Kim, I can't tell you how much fun these are to use. they look big and 'klunky" but are so light weight. I had thinners on my list, but DH came home the day before I left and was telling me about them (Larry came through the manit. shop with sample pair...so I knew about them before I got to Burbank, but had not seen them) Then what they can do...yes they seem like they would just chunk out big hols...but the teeth are different, DH called them hammer shaperd (in profile) and yeah they are kind of like that, no notch in the tooth, and each tooth has maybe 1/16 of an inch of blade, almost like a solid blade...That doen't make much sense dose it? Well, they are just the neatest toy I've come accross.

My little thinner I got from Aussie (Image Tech) and I got a pair of curved Nautilas, with double tang, so they are easy to flip for round heads...I still have to get the hang of them, I did the Std Poodle's topknot yesterday, and then top thinned it with the blenders, wow! Super nice. I was having just a wee problem with the Nautilas, and the bender smoothed out my oops,LOL.

I got 2 pair of the 3 finger shears last year from Aussie, and I have to tell Ya, they have been really great shears for a less expensive price. Show price this year at Burbank, three pair for 100. You can't beat that. So I got the Nautilas, a small 6 inch straight 3 fingered, and the thinner (which BTW work super too!) So I guess you could say I have having a fun time with my new toys!

I couldn't find the other thread where I asked this question.

I can't find the other post where you were speaking about top thinning with blenders for finish work. What exactly do you mean by this. You use them instead of scissors for like the topline on the back or for the whole body, head, legs etc. ? Thanks

                      Missaligned!

Well, wouldn't you know it! I was on my first 2 dogs this morning, and promptly miss-aligned my new toy! shoot! How did I do that? Simple, forgot they were blenders, and went up the right side of a Bichons face, without flipping them over! So I promptly got a tooth snagged by the cutting edge, and messed them up. OH well, DH will be home soon and will probably get a chuckle out of it, He's got a new honing stone, Guess it will be a good place to try it out!

So I got to use my new thinners (double tooth blades) on my 5 bichons 3 Shih Tzus and 1 lhasa...well, not be be left out, the Beagle got her toushy tidy'd too.

Patty, where did you get curved thinners/blenders, I saw some years ago, but none since. I'd love a pair if I could find them!

Well, that's a bummer, lol. That's like getting a newly pair of sharpened scissors and dropping them!

                            I don't quite understand

aozci what you did that caused that. It seems to me either way they would still close okay? I was afraid when reading your post that you caught the ear in them or something, so I felt good that it was just the blenders. Still sorry, I know they were your new love.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.
