  • $50 shopping spree...MONK or HERITAGE SHEARS?

I won the $50 shopping spree. I have my eyes on a couple of items, one of them being a bottle of Grimenator, something I have yet to try.

But I would like to have another pair of shears. I am not one to buy the less expensive shears but I also need another pair and cannot afford the expensive ones right now. I'd like a 10" pair. The ones they have are Monks and Heritage. Anyone have any opinions on them?

So if this were YOUR $50, what would YOU buy? Go ahead girls (and guys)! LIVE THROUGH ME! LOL

First of all, I want to know how you won a $50 shopping spree!!! Some girls have all the luck (yes that is envy talking..lol). I have never used Heritage shears, but I have a pair of Monks that have seen me through about 18 yrs of grooming. I am going to send them off to see if I can get just one more sharpeining out of them. So, if it were my money I would go for the Monks! I want to hear how the rest of you would spend Spikey's money..lol

Well, I know what someone's opinion is of Heritage scissors, lol. But I like mine. Maybe "someone" should get her scissors sharpened by one of our BladeGuyz.

Tammy.............I have ALL Monk Shears and my favorite are my 10".
Jeff gets them in rotation so I always have a wonderful pair on hand.
          This is just my opinion.

I was just looking at the website and I can't decide. I would be looking at it forever trying to get the most out of that $50. So lucky to be you! Let us know what you decide on!

              Tammy,
You will love Grimenator. That is a keeper on my trailer. I have no opinion on shears.

Congratulations!!! I've used heritage, no experience w/monks. They seem fine to me. They hold a good edge for quite awhile. Let us know what you decide.

LOL, so you got my PM about "someone" getting some of those shears.

Gosh, now I'm kind of thinking of buying 2 skip-tooth blades (#5 & #7)...or maybe I'll just buy a #7 skip and a bottle of grimenator? LOL, it's a hard decision.

Part of me doesn't want to buy the Grimenator because it'll just get used up. I want something to KEEP! Maybe I'll order some samples of it and try it?

I LOVE my Monks.... 11 years and still going strong, despite multiple droppings (bad groomer!) and sharpenings....

I have both Heritage and Monk. When I went back to school I learned with the Heritage, so that's what I use the most for my 8's. Just what I'm used to. But no complaints about the Monks either. They work well and I agree they hold an edge and are quite durable.

Between the two--definately the monks--but are you really doing that many dogs that you would really use 10 inchers for. Maybe better to double up on 7 or 8 inchers so you are never without. Also--if you can get a geib gator instead it will be comparable to the monk but the edge will hold a lot longer. I used to work at a school and was able to get my hands on lots of shears and geib are the best way to go as far as I'm concerned
