  • Favorite Waterless Shampoo

I was hoping to find out what waterless shampoo everyone uses. I will be starting to shavedown my parents cat at their home instead of my shop. He does great for his haircut, but it’s his bath that he hates. He usually tries to urinate in the tube, and once I place him in a crate to dry, he urinates in there also. So, I want to just use waterless shampoo from now on to save him the stress. I’ve used Davis waterless shampoo and like it, however to me there is an unusual odor until it dries. My only concern is that my dad has allergies to strong smelling colognes, etc. His allergy shots help keep him from having to many attacks, however I still don't use cologne on their dog and mild shampoo with little to no fragrance. Has anyone had success using one with a mild smell, but still has good cleaning power?

First, is it the sound of the water spraying that freaks him out? SOME cats, albeit it few, simply don't like the sound of the spray, and they can be safely dipped in water, such as a large basin or bucket.

That is my only suggestion. I am not sure about the waterless shampoos, as I still think that eventually it would build up, but others could tell you more. I personally have only used it once.

I've used Self Rinse Plus for years. It really doesn't have an odor at all, and it works very well. It's not only good for animals that you can't bathe, but it's good for cleaning up feet or butts on pets that urinate or defecate and play in it after they've been groomed.

I use Davis waterless. I like the nice lather it makes and it is easy to wipe off.

          Waterless

I find that pets washed with waterless get a build-up of dirt and oils MUCH fatser. I do use waterless the same way Helly does. I use Best Shots.

Bio-Groom for me. Doesn't leave a residue and smells good, but not overpowering, just clean and fresh.
Old groomers never die, they just go at a slower clip.

              Groom on!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. As mentioned above, I don’t really think it’s the sound of the water that bothers him. He will jump in the shower with you, but doesn’t like a bath. I don’t really understand it, so I just thought I would give the waterless a try. I agree with everyone that it may start to build up, but it may allow me to bath him less frequently.

Does he actually need a bath? I groom several cats that get clipped down but no bath at the owners request. Normally I don't like to do this, but in the case of kitty's that keep themselves well groomed and have no fleas I don't have a problem w/it. On the critters that I do use the waterless (usually for feet touch ups if they do the poop and stomp shuffle....lol) I use the Davis Waterless. I just ordered Best Shot One Shot, but have not needed it yet.

I used to wash every cat I did, no matter what. Now I only do cats I shave down and I almost never wash them....the stress on them is not worth it. I use Davis Waterless and I often follow that with a wipe down a nice warm damp moisture magnet to get all the residue off so there won't be any build up....

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I've never thought about going back over them with a damp cloth to remove any residue. Duh!? I can be so silly sometimes, thats a GREAT idea. I'll definitely try that.
