  • Need Help in North Missouri or Southern Iowa

I am looking for someone to help train me. I live in North Missouri and I am willing to pay and travel for a good apprenticeship in dog grooming. I have located a nice gal in Kansas City (120 miles) but would like someone a little closer to home. I have wanted to dog groom for several years and I'm excite and eager to learn. Please let me know if you are interested or know someone that would be interested in training me. Thanks so much.....

I am about 4 to 5 hours away from Davenport. The closest big city to me is Indianola (1 hour) Des Moines (1 1/2 hours) and Kansas City (2 hours) with nothing in between...lol... Is there anyone out there that can help...Thanks

Why not find a local shop and go in there with some goodies and introduce yourself. Then ask if they would be willing to train.
If your dog is fat, you are not getting enough exercise!

Try posted a situation wanted ad on the help wanted section. There's a lot of good jobs listed in there.

Thank you for the great tips, but I only know of 3 groomers in a 50 mile radius of my home. I have personally spoke with each of these groomers and none of them are willing to help me. I get the impression that they are afraid I would be competetion and they might lose clients (which is not my intent at all). The only groomer who has been helpful and willing to train me is about 150 miles from my home and she would like for me to be in her shop everyday for about 3 months. The closest school to my knowlege is in St. Louis which is 5 hours from my home. I am just hoping that someone closer is out there willing to help...Thanks for all your tips...I love this site and won't give up until I become a full fledged groomer...

Were you able to locate someone to train you KantsScareMe? I was wondering if you checked with the large corporate pet stores if any are located within reason? Looks like most of them may be located in western part of your state.

I finally found someone to help me! I will be doing an apprenticeship with a groomer 2 1/2 hours away in Kansas City. She tells me that it will take about 3 months or so and will cost me around 3,000.00. I am so excited and will be staying with family during my training. I will start next week and I can't wait...I will keep everyone posted. Thanks everyone
