  • HELP!cocker feet

i have the hardest time with the full coated cocker feet, most of the cockers i groom are shave downs, but i did a full coated one tues, the feet were perfectly round, but there was one or 2 claws poking through, and i hate when you can see the claws,do any of you have some tricks you can share, and the fur on the feet was very odd, curly and on the sides very straight,if you have any pics of cocker feet please post too
    thank you

To shape and blend the foot i would use thinners for the full cockers.

I gave up a long time worrying about exposing nails. lol When you put the dog on the ground and walk him around you aren't going to see the nails anyways. I wish I had more advice, but I've never gotten a full coated cocker since I moved out of VA last year.

I set my line and length from underneath when I am holding the foot, then when I put the foot down I just take enough off to round and finish. That way, from below, you see exactly where the nails are, and can trim to however far out from the nails you want

this may sound strange but if Im worried about the toe nails showing I trim the foot first and then trim the nails as short as I can. That way the hair is long enough to cover the now shortened nails.
          Hope this helps

One trick that works really well for me is do the feet first, then trim the nails.

When you start to trim the foot make your first cut strait across the front of the foot, right to the untrimmed toe nail. Then round from there. I have found that if I trim that line first I won't ever show nails. Then I trim nails last I always trim nails last anyway, it's my habbit, I always do them last. Even though when I am training someone I always make them do it right out of the tub, lol.
