  • "Pee Strings" work!

On the old boards, I believe it was Maggy who had a client request that she leave the dog's "pee strings" on it. Of course most of us were baffled and couldn't figure out what the heck that was.

The woman told her that the dog tends to piddle on his front legs, and that if you leave a little hair on the end of the dog's penis, rather than shave it off, this will solve the problem. Well, I was thinking, "Yeah, right. Spike has done this since day one, and I am constantly bathing ONE leg, there's no way something that simple will fix this problem. Well, maybe it's worth a try."

IT WORKED!!! He has not peed on his front leg since I've started doing this, and it is SUCH a relief! No more stinky dog, no more washing just one leg, he smells good until his regular bath. Thank goodness!

LOL Tammy! An old boyfriend of mine had a litter of Cocker pups that I did the first b/t on. He told me to leave their "swizzle sticks"...lol...he said he could tell who peed and who needed to go back outside to "do their business"...silly but true!

I think it is a little dog thing to pee on their legs. They are so tiny they just can't help it lol. But now you have to wash his peepee cauz the strings are soaked in pee

Nicole, this was Spike's problem too. His whole front right leg (that's his favorite side, lol) would be SOAKED and stunk so bad. This went on for 4 years before I read that thread. Thought, "What the heck, I'll try it" and voila, I guess I am one of the lucky ones it works for. Spike gets a bath each week, so that helps if he has any sticky pee pee strings, but he also cleans himself off. He's like a cat, LOL. Oh, and it's a full-on stream, ON his front right leg, no trickles here. I'd sit and watch him hoping he'd miss, but he had really good aim I guess. Anyway, I knew it wouldn't work for all dogs, but it worked for him. The hair isn't really long, less than an inch. No sticky mess (and that was a worry for me before I decided to do this). All I can say is "Hallelujah, no more pee legs!!!"

I have to laugh at our standard poodle, he pees and if he is wathcing soemthing will pee on his front leg, but then notice and LIFT his front leg he is peeing on, lol. So he has one hind and one front in the air, look hilarious.

Well, I have a German Shorthair and he pees on his front legs, never quite got the lifting leg part! To bad he has no Pee String hair or I would try it!

I went to a seminar and they called it a "wick." Never tried it or had a request for it, but I could see how it might work.
