  • New Shih Tzu today.

The owner to this new little dog came to my place yesterday, another client had given her my name and where I lived but not my phone #. So she found my place. She explained to me that she was babysitting her granddaughters little dog and needed it groomed so I asked if she wanted to set up an appt.?
She said yes, I asked her tomorrow (today) would be fine at 10 am, with her (I only have had 2 dogs this week). Said yes but if there was anything earlier she would like it better, asked how early, said maybe 7:20 she drives a school bus right pass my house every morning, I agree, (nothing else on the books anyway) I'm not use to opening that early,(8-9 usually) garage is really cold (have to run more propane to warm up garage) and it is still dark out.
Well let me tell you it was well worth it!! This little dog has got to be one of the sweetest little girls around. Was even better than my Toby, who was a rescue dog (my Toby is just soooo much cuter)lol She did NOTHING wrong. Was a perfect angel. I do believe I have a new client, she has two more dogs, and she just thought her little "Tinker Bell" was just perfect.

Maybe I should start at 7:20 more often!! No, I'll wait until spring, when the sun is up. lol

After all these years, Shih Tzu pup don't seem real to me....so cute. I met Putter tday as I mentioned somewhere else today.... better tan many adult dogs of any breed. The little trooper. sat, looked at me and let me use thinning shears on bridge of nose ,EASY AS PIE. PROUD OF HIS LITTLE SELFIE TOO. 4 mos seemed, late, but it was good timing dor 1st . and with suction noise and dryer too. If only they were all that way+ nice people.

          Hey Pixie,

Glad it worked out for you. Situations like that typically go the other way at least in my experience. Congratulations on the new client!!

With my home shop, I have clients early about 2 days a week. I don't let them come before 7:15 because my 9 year old has to catch the bus at the end of our driveway. There are a lot of people who want to drop their dogs off early and leave work at luch and pick them up. Since my commute is just a walk down my steps to the grooming room, I don't mind. The sooner I start, the sooner I'm done!

Gotta love those Shih Tzus. I would say that 1/4 my clients have shih tzus and as mentioned before I breed and raise them (Getting ready to start agility with 2 of them) most of them are great. There are some that you might like to hog tie to make it through the grooming process but as soon as your done it's back to playing and kisses.

Shih Tzus are some of my favorite clients as well. I LOVE doing their cute little heads. Here is one of my favorites. This is Rocco. His tongue kind of stick out of his mouth and his head is always tilted when I groom him - but he is a cutie!

What do you use on the top of his head? Are you taking the whole visor off? It looks really cute and I was just wondering.
                  Thanks

I love the short ears, all of my shih tzus have long ears. I will have to get one of them to let me crop them:-)

He is just as cute as can be! Don't ya just love it when their head is always tilted when you're working on it!? lol Drives me crazy, never sure if it is the same on both sides.

I know you weren't asking me about the head but I'll give you my answer . I most ALWAYS take the whole visor off. I just love the way it opens up their eyes, they look so much cuter that way. JMO

When the sun is up by 5-6 am I don't mind at all having the dogs come at 7, but when it is still dark outside it is just sooooo much harder for me to get out of bed and get going. I don't have any kids to get off to school, just my dogs that want to go out and be fed. lol

I think there should be a Shih Tzu on our State flag...or an additional smaller flag attached to it as our official stste dog. I do so many! Why not Schnauzer you ask, cuz I own and love #1? Cuz there are sooo many Shih Tzus here. What do you tell clien'ts to keep eyes from being stinky? Only problem..stinky eyes a lot of them.

I use thinning shears on his entire head. I don't like visors just because by the time I get back, even in two weeks, the hair is usually hanging in their eyes. I just pull the coat up with my greyhound comb, hold it between my fingers and thinning shear it off. Sort of like a human hairdresser does.

                          Thank you!

I know it is not ever even, as long as he looks cute, I am happy!
