  • shampoo question

I have to do a 12 yr old Standard with a heart condition on tuesday. The owner has sensativity and allergies to EVERYTHING. She said not to use any smelly stuff on the dog. So what am I supposed to wash this dog with. All of my shampoo's have sent.

Try a hypo-allergenic shampoo. If you don't have one, you can always buy some baby shampoo and use that. Some baby shampoos even have a conditioner in them. A 2 in 1 kind.

I'd say do a vinegar rinse at the end of the bath.

You need a hypoallergenic shampoo. Most major brands have one. Can you order one in time?

Hypo A Shampoo would be my choice. Maybe ask the owner if she has a special shampoo she would like to bring for you to use. Not til Tues? Time to run out and purchase some scent-less shampoo.

I would wash with the shampoo you would normally use, than wash a second time with hypo shampoo, as hypo shampoos don't always clean as well.

HMM. So many choices. Even baby shampoo has a smell to it. I think no matter what I use I will do a vinigar rinse. The lady said well I have some people shampoo. I said I would think about what to use. She is not sure the dog can even have a bath. The dog gets worked up during the car ride to the normal groomer and with the heart condition the lady is afraid the dog will drop over. So, she wants me to pre-clip her just in case so that at least she gets a hair cut. I really don't want to cauz it is hard on my blades, but guess I don't have much of a choice.

Hypo + from groomers edge has absolutely NO scent.

Maybe if you go to a local pet supply store you can find a hypo type shampoo that is unscented. We have a local pet store chain and they carry a good variety of shampoo's.

aside from the shampoo issue I would make sure that the dog has been Cleared by the Vet to be groomed. If the heart condition is that bad kinda a CYA factor!

SAL Groomer has a wonderful hypo shampoo that cleans well but has no fragrance, one of my favorites. Natures Specialties has one they call Hypo A but it is so perfumy I just can't consider it a true hypoallergenic shampo.

I use Biogroom So Gentle for the dogs that owners say are allergic to everything. I started using it 2 yrs. ago and haven't had a dog react to it( knocking on wood as I type this).

Johnsons' baby shampoo is a detergent type shampoo, and acyually has qyite a strong fragrance. If you have to go to pet------ get the least smelling one you can find. Back i san mateo, Ca there was a big pets store not pet---- or pet===== but like that. no grooming then. It was like seeing the catalogue in person. But Pet edge gets stuff to us fast if you pick soomethiing and want it fed x or even reg. $. Coat Handler (client called coat hanger) get the small bottle. If min required,I'm sure there are a few things you could get, cheap,Zanies or something for max order req.Premium 5-1 was created for show dogs that go back next day to compete again..gentle...frag. none to lie.160z.7.99 @ petedge. just looked it up for ya.

I agree with you on both counts.. coat Handler is always good to have on hand..even if only small bottle. I often refuse older dogs however...If you think the dog could die and you want to groom...get a release signed first.!
