We were steady last year no slow down. This year the weather has been aweful. But it has been painfully slow and I was wondering if it was just us or if this is across the board?

I am usually slow in January, it is one of my slowest months. But this year I have been real busy. Up until now that is. I think because we had such warm weather everyone was coming in. This week has been really cold and I have had cancellations and the phone is not ringing. Next week might be the same. I know it will pick up again once the weeks roll around that my regulars come in. I am trying to enjoy the break!

I work at a boarding kennel so for the first few days in Jan I still had a lot of departure baths, then for about a week it was dead dead dead, now it has picked up to a more regular pace, some days are slower than others though. I live in FL though so I'm not as affected by the weather...Except for when people wear winter coats in 60 degree weather.

We had an unusually warm winter at the start and so business was booming, but now that it's gotten cold again - it has gotten slower (mixed feelings there). I'm a home biz and we don't rely too much on my income so I'm not too worried, but my wallet sure is feeling lonely.Hang in there - Spring is just around the corner!

Usually the first 6 weeks of the year are slow here.
Last year surprised me, we stayed pretty steady through the Winter. Didn't have to scrape by.
This year was shaping up the same way...first two weeks were steady...then nothing...or darn close to nothing. I suppose that could be due to the snow and cold snap we're having.
I always try to compare my books to peoples pay dates. Last week of the month is always slower...people paying rent, mortgages etc.
I'm hoping after the 1st things will pick up again, they'll start thinking about those tax returns and go back to spending $$.
Enjoy the break!!

Glad to see it's not just us. We've been busy ever since Xmas, until this week. This week we're all sitting around looking out the windows, cutting bandannas, heck, we even had "arts & craft" day yesterday and made Valentine's Day wreaths for the shop, lol.

Wow, no we're busy. Normally I'b be scraping by with three or four dogs, and working maybe three or four days a week. This year though, I guess with the warm weather we've been nice and busy. We have 24 dogs lined up tomorrow! and even more than that on Saturday!Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job. ~Franklin P. Jones

I'm pretty steady..
I've got alot of maintenance customers (every 4-6 weeks) so I am either steady all the time or very busy... mind you, MY BUSY is 4 - 5 dogs TOPS!!! I usually do 3 - 4 a day,,, I work alone and that is a perfect number for me!
By the way... is anyone out there a "slower" groomer like me?!

I consider myself a slow groomer at this point. I have a bather working with me and the most I can comfortably do in a 9 hour workday is 9-10, with 6-7 haircuts and the rest bath dogs. Of course if I had some unusally large dogs it would be less. I think the most we had in our shop right before Christmas was 15, but I definitely ran over my normal hours and I was ready to pull my hair out by the end of the day.
My biggest weakness is that I have a hard time making sure the end result lives up to my standards, but yet not spending an excessive amount of time on each dog. I think I take too much time perfecting the groom when sometimes I need to just move on to the next dog. Chances are the client will never even notice the little things that I would love to fix if I just had more time.
