This morning when I was getting things ready for my first client I decided to clean the cat litters. My daughter bought a couple of the automatic cat litters, they are very nice, with 4 cats we were ALWAYS cleaning (I was). So these things have made a great improvement. All I have to do now is take out the tray that the waste goes in and replace with a new tray. Well I was pulling out the tray and it snapped, there was litter on the edges and it went flying, right into my eye. OUCH!!!! that hurt so much! I hurried upstairs and rinsed my eye over and over again. It still felt like there was some grit in my eye so I rinsed some more. It finally started to feel better. From now on I think I'll wear goggles when I clean those trays.
I went downstairs and waited for my first groom to arrive, an old cocker (14 yrs old??) , I have been doing her since she was a baby, off and on. When I saw her I just about broke out in tears. She was such a mess. Ears were matted with poop, her legs were matted. She has a big pot belly and her backbone is sticking up. She is blind in both eyes. She is cold and has ice on her ears and feet. (it has been below zero at night for almost a week, maybe longer, not much better during the day either). This dog really needs to be stripped! I asked the gal if the dog was going to be in the house more during the cold weather and she says the dog goes in and out, (mostly out I believe) I told her that the dog is going to be really short and will need to be in the house more until her coat grows back. Said she would keep her in more.
I wet shaved her, at least her ears, and legs. I decided I just couldn't bring myself to cut off her hair on her back, so she has short legs and a longer back. I did her in shifts, to make it a little easier on the poor old thing.
When she came back to get the dog I suggested that she take her to a vet to have her checked out. I didn't like the looks of her tummy and the backbone sticking out. She said that her brother has been trying to talk her into putting the dog to sleep. I said that it may not be such a bad idea and to really consider it. Talk to her vet and see what he has to say.
Rest of my day went pretty well, just had a bad start.
My eye feels fine tonight, can't even tell it was in such pain this morning.
