Welcome. Are you a groomer or are you going to school to become one or at this moment just dreaming of being one?
I love your avatar, being my maiden name was "Bassett" I have a fondness for the breed."There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face."

Hi! Your story sounds a lot like mine. I also dreamed of being a groomer since I was very young. My parents didn't feel it was a 'real' career and didn't encourage it. I went to college for a year and after many jobs with bad bosses my husband was the one that encouraged me to pursue my need to groom. It took a long time to find a groomer that would take me in as an apprentice. I ended up going to a shop 45 mintues away. I've been on my own for two years now and am loving every minute of it. Good Luck to you!!

I'm new to the board too. I finally fulfilled my dream of opening up a Salon at home. It's been awesome!! I can't imagine doing anything else - I feel blessed and almost guilty sometimes. Good luck with your plans! It's a process - But you CAN do it!!Keep us informed on how you're doing.

Thanks Everyone!
Thanks for all of the kind encouragement everyone! I am having a small challenge finding a grooming salon that will let me work for free. (This must be an "opportunity" in disguise!)
I plan to study as much as I can on my own if no salons will accept me. I saw a post on the old forum from someone who placed an add in the newspaper for dogs to groom for free while they were learning on their own. I think this is a great idea and I will do that if I have to. Unfortunately I can't afford school, but fortunately I always do what I can with what I've got and make the most of it. I plan to purchase Notes From The Grooming Table and Theory Of Five as well.
I have a good eye for design and art. I've worked in salons for years and can't beleive some of the funktified, crooked cuts I've seen walking out of those places. I have already groomed many fur babies better than that! Plus I luuuv, luuuv, luuuv anything feathery, fluffy or furry and have lots of experience owning and caring for all kinds of critters.
I would like to have a mobile grooming business once I'm ready. I'm sure that with my past experience of working for myself that I will be a success. "All" ( and I know that 's a big "All") I need to do is learn and get comfortable with grooming techniques.
Er, I mean wrestiling techniques, Ha Ha...You are too funny diamienono, LOL.

WELCOME
I'm a pretty new groomer too!!!!!!! I took the plunge and quit a full time job as manager of a Saddle/farrier shop(family owned), got an online course, did an apprenticeship, and opened my own shop. Hind sight being 20/20, I wish I had of been able to "take time off" and physically GO TO school. BUT, that's where this board is PERFECT, everyone is so helpful and encouraging, I love it here!!!!!!!!
Good Luck to you!!!!!!!! Follow your dreams, it's SO worth it in the end!!!!!!!!!
