My little girl Julie had to be put down yesterday, she was only nine. She was my best friend. She always listened to my problems and acted like she understood. I remember when I got her my boyfriend tried to surprise me by sneaking off to buy her for me but I saw the newspaper ads circled on the counter and new what he was up to. But what I didn't expect was him to bring home a shoe box. She was so tiny she fit in one. That dog went every where with me for about the first 6 years of her life. I took her to work with me. I worried when my first child was on the way that she would be jealous. But it wasn't anything to worry about that baby was her baby. She would lay by her if she was on the floor having tummy time. Once I had to bring my daughter to work at the groom shop she was about 6 months old, well I had her in a play pen and someone came up to the half door and Julie (a small cocker spaniel) leaped into the playpen. She later acted as my daughters pillow and they had a nice nap together.
As she got older she hated to be used as a pillow, but I didn't blame her. She was my old girl now. Her babysitting days were over.
Anyways she started going down hill a couple of years ago. I blame her poor breeding as I said before my boyfriend got her from an ad in the paper. She started getting bad skin due to her thyroid problem, and seizures occasionally, but she developed a cough that the vets could not figure out they did x-rays, tested for all sorts of things but nothing helped. Her last few days it was constant and she only stopped when I think she was exhausted from coughing and fell asleep. I knew she had to be in a lot of pain she was shivering so I decided it was time. She was the oldest dog I have ever had. And I will miss her forever. We love you Julie
