  • cat died while grooming

today was a sad day for me, I had a cat that i groom regularly die today at my shop, this is what happened..... i bathed the kitty and started drying him, everything was fine then he went limp for about 30 sec then was fine ( i immediately stopped the groom). I put him in the crate and called the owners, they came and the cat was still alive at this time, and seemed fine they took him out and they were holding kitty he then went limp again and was gasping a little, the vet is right across the street from me the owner took the cat there but it was too late the cat was dead, I just feel so terrible........ I went across the street to see what was going on, the girls there reassured me that i did nothing wrong but I just feel so sad.

Aww that is sad. But at least it's not your fault...Was the cat older?

So sorry this happened! Must be so hard to deal with.

Was kitty old or sick? Did he have heart or breathing problems?

I'm so sorry. This must be really hard for you to deal with, but you did everything right. Are they going to try to find out what caused it?

                        So sorry

Wonder if they can find out what the problem was. Something in his windpipe? Heart problems? Very odd...

So Sorry this happened... in all the years I have been grooming, only one pet ever passed away. He was a lovely cocker, I had been grooming him for years. Over time his health began to present issues that suggested I groom him at the Vet's. It was heart failure that caused him to collapse in the tub during a bath. Although we tried CPR and the Vet tried an injection of something to 'revive' his heart but it was to late.
I had been close friends with his owner and I chose to call her rather than have the Vet. I cried more than she did, she knew he was not doing well but I shall never forget him.

It is a very hard thing to have happen and my deepest sympathy for what you are going through. Although Rusty passed away over 20 years ago, I still feel his loss. We can become very attached to the 'pets' we groom.

most cats have a mitral valve prob, i think thats what my vet said . anyway they have a heart problem, a sudden startle or just nothing can trigger it. sorry your heart is hurting, thats the only down side to what we do. my last cat was sitting on my feet batting at one of the pups(14) years ago,the pup yapped at him, he fell over dead on my feet, the vet called it mitral valve prolapse.

My boyfriend has mitral valve prolapse, it is basically a noisy valve. I think that maybe the cat probably had a heart attack. A noisy valve does not kill.
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
