  • Lymes Disease

Well, I've been diagnosed with Lymes Disease for the second time in my life. I don't think I ever got rid of it the first time, but my blood work back then came back negative. My doc tells me with this test it tells him it was within the last few months that I got it again. I never saw this tick just like the first round with this, but the first time I did have the tell-tale bullseye rash. No rash this time. I just have been feeling weak, and about every big joint in my body hurts. I more than likely got it from a dog and didn't even know it. He gave me a prescription that is medically necessary that I don't get a generic for. It is going to cost $465. And to top it all off, my van is in the shop and I haven't worked since last week. I can't take it anymore............

Wow, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. My dad had it once several years ago. It totally wiped him out. I hope you and your van get better soon.

Ferret, did you ask the doctor if he has free samples of the drug he wants you to take? They often do, and it can cut down on how much you have to spend. When I was on the county medical assistance a few years ago, my doctor prescribed a new medication that they wouldn't pay for, so every time I went in, he loaded me up with free samples.

You also might apply directly to the drug company for free or a reduced price. Most drug companies have assistance programs for people who don't have drug coverage.

When I had Lyme disease they gave me doxacyclene (sp) they said that was the cure and it worked. It was cheap too.

The antibiotic prescription he wrote for me is not a type of prescription he would have samples of. Its pretty heavy duty because it is also used to treat Malaria....tough stuff. My doc is a nice guy and would give me samples if it were available. I used to have a prescription plan...but don't anymore.

            That's some hard lumps

And on top of it you don't feel well. I'm so sorry that you are ill, and that it costs alot and your Van is sick too. Gosh. Wishing you a miraculous recovery.

This might help. If your dog was ill, or your ferret you'd likely feel better about that kind of cost. Treat yourself well. Meanwhile perhaps look into things that might help boost your own immunities.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.

Ask the doc if there is another drug that is cheaper. Tell him you have no insurance. Most of them will work with you.
