A gift for me?

I walk a dog everyday for a very sophisticated elderly lady in the throws of Alzheimers. At first, she made it clear I was not welcome.
After several months our relationship got a little better. She became more comfortable having me around her furry soulmate.
Just before the holidays she said to me one day "I have a package for you around here somewhere" as she searched invane around her apartment. "It can't be that hard to find, it has a red ribbon around the top of it" she says.
"How sweet!" I thought to myself. "She's accecpted me."

"Oh! Here it is!" As she points to the white garbage bag with the red tie handle around the top, stuffed inside the oven (to keep the dog out of it).

Ok, well it's a slow process.

It's funny but sad, I just read it to my husband and was trying not to laugh

No, it wasn't intended to be mean or to be a joke.
I just totally misread what she wanted, which was to remove the garbage so the dog would not get into it. He's number one.

I did laugh about it to myself afterward. I evidently held myself in much higher regard than she did! She's a trip!!

When I was a route manager for Schwan's frozen food. I had this really "large" old lady for a customer. I hated going to her house cauz every time she made me tell her what was in the freezer and fill a garbage bag and then I had to put it in my truck and drive it down the road to the dumpster.
