  • These Guys Are Monkeying Around

The things people do for money! Get out the flea combs and bananas! Plus you get to go down in history with the title Honorary Animal Lover...YIKES!

Feb. 8 - BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese zoo is running a Big Brother style competition with a difference -- the contestants have to live in a monkey enclosure.

Six people will live with the monkeys in the zoo in the northwestern province of Shaanxi "to experience the lack of freedom the animals have", the China Daily said on Thursday.

The last person remaining will win 11,888 yuan (approximately $1536.31 US Dollars) and title of Honorary Animal Lover, the newspaper said.

"It is the first such activity in China, and any Chinese from 18 to 60 years old, in good psychological condition with wild animal protection and survival knowledge may participate," the report added, without elaborating.

              KOKO

I have always wanted to meet KOKO the Gorilla. She once lived in nearby palo Alto w/ penny, her caretaker/human mom. Koko had a kitten that died and was heartbroken. i believe she really can communicate in sign language. I, do not know sign language however. I would go live with KOKO...not monkeys. They say money talks, all its' ever said to me is: Goodbye. Some people will do anything for money.

But that amount of Yen is HUGE in China that is more than a teacher makes in years.

Actually a teacher averages about 1950 RMB (yuan not yen, yen is japanese currency) a month, 23,400RMB a year, so about twice what they are offering. It may even be more in Beijing. China is also a socialist government meaning their tax rate is absurd, so after the government takes their share of that contest money, it will probably be 50-70% less that what it began as.

EEEWWW. I love animals, but monkeys are my least favorite. They'e so gangly and they look like naked people running around with their butts showing, lol. Not my cup of joe.

Notice they're wearing what looks like battle fatigues? LOL

                      Spike,
That is because they have to battle with those darn monkeys. I don't like monkeys. They can be quite nasty. Chimps kill people and regularly beat the heck out of each other.

Stephen, where is the spell check? I have been waiting lol.

I remember reading about Koko in a book I have, what was it called, oh yeah Chicken Soup for the Animal Soul (I love all those books, lol). It was a very sweet story about her and her cat that died, I think that she named the cat All Ball.

I definitely don't think that it would be worth the money!

Tammy, you are too funny, though they do look like funny little naked people, lol.
