  • Tubs

Well I am planning on making my tub purchase. I really really want the 48" foreverstainless tub with all the fixins' (grates, small dog tray, ramp, side well) but.....its going to be just over 4G to get it with shipping. My hubby isn't too happy about it but I just love the tub. I use one where I'm at now. Anyone else have a tub they looooovvvee so I can check it out, lol.

I wanted that one too, but I just couldn't justify the expense. I got the $895 one from Groomers Choice. It is nice but I could really use that side well, and the small dog tray would come in handy sometimes.

We found a resteraunt that was closing and they had this huge stainless sink out side that they gave us. my hubby ground out the middle section and I have a super tub.

At my old job they had regular tubs raised up. Just be careful how you install it, right before I left they tore off the front board and the wood inside/under neath was all rotting.

You can find some at hardware stores that have little dents or scratches in them and are sold really cheaply.

I hate hate hate bending over a tub!

At one of my locations we've got a tiled wall on the back side, two foot wide build out with wood frame, waterproof pans underneath...cemented and tiled on top. It is high up on two stations, lower for another station (for the big guys). Total cost was around $300 plus the labor. I have 3 watering holes on that tub. It's about 8-9' long. I always said if I opened another place I want another tub JUST LIKE THIS. This has been in place for 10 years, and will probably last forever...lol.

I digress, second location was just recently added. I bought a regular bathtub used, short cabinet for base, wood frame build out. Just had to do the frame and plumbing. But I am bending over into this one...errrrr! I need to create a raised grated stand for the little guys that cause me to bend over into the tub. Also laid waterproof panel under the tub to prevent the wood rot from wetness. I was in a hurry to get it up and going...but the plan is to eventually build one like the other location. Total cost $150 plus labor.

I find if you're handy, and imaginative...it's cheaper to do it yourself ; )

            Wow, I don't think I could ever willingly spend $4000 on a bathtub. I know they're nice, but that's a lot of money for a tub. We have the stainless Groomer's Best w/ramps & grates & they're great. $600, I think?

I've used the regular human bath tubs (elevated) before and I really dislike them. Too much bending and I was always soaked because they weren't deep enough.

Wow, $4000, I can't even wrap my mind around that one. We went to Lowes and spent $300 on a trailer size regular tub and set it on a wooden frame it fits snuggly in a space made for a tub that would sit on the ground. Of course for huge dogs I would love to have a lower tub or shower, I really hate that water running down my arms on the great danes and other monster dogs.

Hee hee hee .... I think that's one of those instances where I have an advantage for this business -- I have a great dane, so I'm just plain used to drool and spit being everywhere, so being wet from the bath ... bah ha ha.

Anyone who says heavy water is a high end science thing has never changed the water bowl of a great dane!

                  Yikes!

Yikes! four thousand dollars for a tub? How much money is that in Dog Dollars? (Just Kiddin) I luv all the really great ideas here for alternative tubs though! What a score getting a free stainless restaurant sink. I'm still thinking about how I am going to work my sink. I want to design something on my own and have my handy hubby build it for me. he does drywall and construction. We don't have lots of money, but we sure have some nice lookin walls. Ha ha.

Ok, $4000 in doggie dollars. If you charge an average of $50 a dog that is 80 dogs. If you groom 20 dogs a week that is 4 weeks of work to pay for your tub. That really isn't bad when you figure it out that way.

Is $2600 too much? I was looking into one at petlift.com. I really wanted that one because you have the option of different colors.

Most of the tubs we have used in state of the art facilities cost around $2500 and built to last for a long time, it's a matter of choice often based on what someone can afford. We have stainless steel cages about as good as the day we first bought them, still in use, SINCE 1962, that 45 years of use. It was worth the price.

                        Free sink

My husband brought home a double stainless steel sink from one of the
                        guys at work.
                        Each bay is 26x23in.

I was going to use it as is, but he found out is is solid underneath and
is going to cut out the divider and grind it down.

It is however a big mess with paint, and stains on it.
He is using some sort of cleaner with a steel grinding whee. to clean it.

I am a lucky lucky gal.

Will post photos of before and after once it is done.

Mobile AND Home Shop, I must be spoiled!

Yep, I definately plan to go mobile. I think that having a mobile grooming business will work best for me because my husband and I are looking to move to a very rural area. Possibly northern Maine. We aren't quite sure yet. That said, I plan to also to build a home grooming shop into our new home once we move as well. That way if I can get any nearby clients I will be able to work inside and it will be more convenient for me to groom my own dogs (and cats and Macaw). If I get lots of people who will drive to my home shop, I will just hire someone to work for me mobile so I can also offer mobile. I actually have lots of business experience as well as dog experience. I just need to hone my grooming skills.

As the saying goes you get what you pay for.

The forever stainless tub is top quality. Their craftmanship is top notch. the features they incorporate make it easy to use. The materials they use are higher quality. Resale value of the tub will be there because of these points. Also it will last forever. Hence the name.

The $4000.00 tub is including shipping. And has all the extra features.

As someone stated they broke down the price in dog dollars. Break that down over the length of your career in grooming and I think the investment is well worth it.

We have purchased some petlift equipment. Not to bad mouth them, but I have been less than impressed with some of their craftmanship. JMO.
