  • Ruby and Norman-Neapolitan Mastiffs

Here is my old girl Ruby with my son. They were sharing Ice cream. This is one of my all time favorite photos. I will also post another picture of Norman. We were on a pet walk, and this lady was a complete stranger-he is like this with pretty much everybody...

I hope that awesome photo of your son & Ruby is framed and hanging on the wall -- it should win a prize.

Funny you should say that about that picture. It was professionally done, and the photographer entered it into some big photographers convention competition, but sadly it didn't win. So disappointing! Yes, it is framed and hanging on the wall. This particular photographer is so awesome! I have had him do pictures a few times, and he really knows how to capture the moment! We are due to have pics done again soon. That was about 5 years ago.

Wow! The one with your son looks like it should be on a post card or something! What a great picture!

And the other one, I wished that I ran into him in the park, what a doll!

I like both of your pics. Your dog looks pretty cool. He looks sweet. What kind of personality do those dogs have? Just wondering I have never met one, I have seen them before but never met one.

Thanks everyone! Poodlefluff, look under the other thread titled "Ever had one of these" in Check out my groom pictures (I think). There is a few posts of the general characteristics of the breed. They are an instinctual property guarding breed. Very good with people (most of them, anyway), but will typically defend their property and people if need be. It is not an uncontrolled or unpredictable aggression in a well bred dog. They are supposed to be very even tempered, but will rise to the occasion. This is the shortened condensed version! Norman doesn't have a guarding bone in his body, however! Ruby was very much a protector.

Both of those pictures are so awesome!! When the photographer was working w/your son and Ruby did he have to position them or did he just give your son the ice cream and start snapping to get that great pict? Just out of curiosity, was he at all nervous about working w/Ruby? If someone isn't an animal person, (and even for someone who is....lol) I bet she could be a pretty daunting subject to work with....lol.... She looks like a pussycat w/your son though, I know you never had to worry about stranger danger when she was around! Thanks for sharing....I personally would love to see more picts of your Neo's. They are such an unusual breed, it is nice to see them in snap shots and not just in movies playing 3 headed monsters....lol

The photographer is a customer of mine. He brings me his dog (a little shihtzu), and I get pictures done in return. He isn't scared of any of my dogs.

We just gave Thomas an ice cream cone and told him to share it with Ruby. It was the coolest thing! I will post more pictures of Norman and Ruby when I have extra time.
