  • Clara the Cockapoo

Little miss Clara here doesn't get brushed by her owners, is going through coat change, and hadn't been groomed in a while...so you know what that means! Thankfully I had my trusty conditioners, 5 and 7 blades, and of course my new Les Poochs to get through the groom. Big huge mats behind the ears that just got buzzed off, and shaved her belly with a 5 since it's winter and it was matted. So certainly not the best groom I've ever done, but I thought I'd share, since she's so cute.

I think she's adorable and you did a great job! Thanks fo sharing! I wish I could get the front feet to look that good. I always seem to end up with the slipper foot!

Thank you very much! Clara's feet are actually pretty easy, I love little teddy bear paws like this. I shave paw pads with a ten, then with her feet flipped around so I can see underneath I scissor all the hair out of the way of the pads so nothing sticks out past her paw pad. Then I scissor around the paw in a sort of wide U shape. On Clara I tend to stay out past the nail a little bit, but on a dog with a shorter leg I would scissor the bottom of the U to just before the nail. Then i set the foot down and comb the hair down, scissoring anything that doesn't fit the U shape I set. Then I just comb up and scissor into the rest of the leg. I usually start with the paws on the legs of a dog like this, so it's really easy to blend - just scissor as if the paw were an extension of the leg, especially on the front. Hope that made sense, lol.

Didn't you tell us one time your weren't a groomer?

          You lie!!!!

Great job. I do most of my mixes in the same style of trim.

She looks great and very nice groom, but that has to be one of saddest faces in dogdom. She looks like someone took her toy and away and scolded her. Lol Too cute.

Haha well I'm not an actual groomer... I groom Addie and a few family/friends' dogs.

Thanks all, caninecrazy I agree she looks so depressed lol. But I assure you once she was off my table she was all tail wags and kisses! She's actually a very happy, friendly dog.

Green dog, sorry, did'nt mean to imply mistreatment whatsoever, rather, she just has one of those sad expressions. If people went by some of the expressions my groom dogs have I'd probably get fired alot! LOL...

No that's not how I took it at all, just saying that she's not normally a sad dog. Lol I don't know that I've ever seen an overjoyed expression on any dog being groomed!
