I regularly board a family of PWD's. They are all show dogs. One is on the circuit now, she is a year old. Tao the Curly Coat is a retired champ and Marsh is semi-retired. Usually the handler grooms them but she decided to give me a try.....talk about nervous.... I had already left when she picked them up (okay, I was a chicken and I didn't want to cry in front of her if she hated them) and she told Ronnie that they looked as good as when their handler does them! The only thing I did wrong (and I knew it as soon as I did it) was I went to far back over Marsh's eyes. These are before and after picts of Tao. I love the after pict because of the way she posed. I had to follow them around snapping picts before I got a good one...lol

courage
to groom show dogs. I've done a few, besides my own, and it sure is nerve wracking. When I see the grooming competitions, I think of the show groomers that day in day out groom perfectly, no room for goofs. Perfectionism is needed.
Good for you. You did well. If not going into the ring right then most little fudges will be grown in before the show. The groom looks real good.Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.

It was a little nerve wracking, but I comforted myself w/the knowledge that she knows I am not a "show" groomer and also that Tao is retired and Marsh isn't going back on the circuit for a while. They are really good dogs once they settle down for the groom, and they are great boarding animals. I could really get into this breed w/little pursuasion. I love their cold wet noses! They kept goosing my ears and neck while I was grooming them. I swear they felt like they keep those noses on ice!!! lolSheilaB from SC

Thanks for the complements (head getting big..lol). Spikey, I used the A snap on for the body and the E on the legs to set the lengths and get the bulk off and then I got out my Scissors! I used the Coat King to help blend the body and legs and chest and to take out some of the bulk on the back of the head. She doesn't get a clipped muzzle like Marsh so it was completely scissored. They do have a wonderful coat to work on. It is very forgiving of errors....lolSheilaB from SC

Very nice -- I haven't done any of those yet but I am really dying to do some more hand scissoring like that. Sometimes I think the only way I will learn real good hand scissoring is to get my own poodle. We do a lot of shorter cuts and not much scissoring to practice.

Nice Groom!!! We have a PWD breeder by us. She also does showing with them, so we usually do the pregrooming. Bath (they are always dirty) and get the snarls out because they have to be clean and snarl free for the show groomers. When they aren't showing and are doing agility, we do clip them. At first we were sooo nervous (just got out of grooming school), but she loved them. A lady actually drives about 45 min. to bring her PWD by us because she called the other lady and asked where she takes hers. She suggested us and has been coming to us for about a year now.

I would say get rid of that ledge on the back of the topknot and have it be a smooth transition from topknot to withers...kind of reminiscint of a bichon. Other than that, the groom looks great. Oh, and I said in your other post to shave the tail a bit more. That's what I'd do anyway, but that's really a matter of taste not standard so much anyway. Great job!Erin
